The time I went to the top, it kicked my butt! The wind was horrendous, which I hear it is pretty much all the time. It was one of the best times I've spent being miserable. I'd do it again.

There's always a danger of a hot spring being too hot, but the rule of thumb is to NEVER soak in a source pool. Most "soakable" pools are separate from their hot water source. Water is usually channeled into a stock tank or earthen tank, so if Mother Nature decides to belch, the scalding water...

I too believe those stone structures are wind breaks. There are 5-6 of them on the ascent to the summit of Wheeler Peak (Nevada's highest mtn. @ 13,064' elev.) and believe me, they were certainly appreciated on the way up! You found some incredible camping spots and a beautiful place to dodge...
