Plenty of time to kill here in IL. virus cases still rising here. Thought I would share some nature observations on a walk today. Birds are going crazy here with nesting pairs and migratory birds stoping by in numbers. Carol and I spend each morning coffee clutching and enjoying the show to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Invasive shrubs

I have been retired from hunting for many years. We have a limited population pheasants and quail in the area. We enjoyed watching a ringneck this morning in the rain. So this farm is a no hunt operation. We do have plot tours with the local USDA/NRCS for landowners interested in CRP programs...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Invasive shrubs

With lots of time on our hands these days thought I would share these pics. Spring and fall these invaders have to be dealt within our CRP plot. The main enemies are Russian Olive, Multiflora Rose. They are brought in by birds and mammals that eat their seeds. Left unchecked they will inundate...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hummingbirds and bees

Frank, I’m not a bee expert but, I think the bumblebees are ground nesters. Our neighbor has several standard honey bee hives that she harvests honey from. Her honey is lighter in color and thinner than store purchased. Also a field next to us has red clover for commercial hay that her bees...

First hummingbird showed up here on Tuesday. We set the feeders out on Monday so glad to see them back. We use our American Plums in bloom to estimate their arrival. Our neighbor is a bee keeper and our plums are the first flowering shrubs to attract them. I took a few pics on my plot walk while...
