RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tailgate on or off?

I knew someone with a compact Sun Lite pop top camper installed onto a Ford 150. He was able to close the tailgate with the camper installed and left it on to use as a porch / mudroom for dirty boots. It also made for a nice shelf/table for an outdoor cook stove. My personal preference is to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Which Sealant, Adhesive or Caulk to Use? Depends on the Application.

A "dear previous owner" of my camper used clear silicone sealant on the "outside" of my roof screws - with extra slathers of this goop around the base of the roof vent. I'm sure that the "DPO" meant well - but I would have used a polyurethane sealant - which is at least paintable.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Are load range E tires really needed for camper?

Congratulations on the new tires. The good folks at Discount Tire inflated my E rated Toyo Open Country AT3 tires to 32 PSI when I bought them. On the way home in my 1st Gen Tundra, at any speed above 40 miles per hour they were loud and I do mean loud. With an empty cargo bed - 40 PSI...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Are load range E tires really needed for camper?

Just read the OP's first post on this thread - "Bridgestone Dueler H\T 265/60R20 tires" - and noticed the low profile tire size. I may be a bit old-school, but on under maintained, unpaved roads - I'd want at a minimum a tire with a 70 side profile for when the tires are aired down. I run a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing Roof Rack

A 2021 FWC Hawk is way too nice of a build for steel unistrut bars. If it were mine, I would at least buck up for a Yakima / Thule substitute. https://bulletproofoff-road.com/i-30641372-58-inch-t-track-mounts-for-yakima-and-thule-rack-systems-decked.html As mention above, do a little...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DC/DC charger help

That was my rational for selecting #6 gauge wiring for my 30 amp DC to DC controller - which has a cut-off sensing voltage of 12.7v. My seat of the pants estimate was to limit the voltage drop when the controller was drawing full current to less than 3%. My truck has an old-school 130 amp dumb...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What size watt solar generator needed to run 12v fridge full time

That is a good match for a slide-in camper. However, and as mentioned by Vic, you will need to run that RV industry fridge on propane.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminum lift panels, does anyone know the origin?

That aluminum lift panel looks to be what in the US Army was called "local manufacture". That was fifty years ago. The Army may have changed nomenclature since then.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What size watt solar generator needed to run 12v fridge full time

Just a newbie comment - Not every day has full, cloudless sun. So, start with at least 200 watts of photovoltaic cells. Also, what size portable lithium power supply are you planning to use? 1200 watt hours of storage will be more than enough to get you through a day of no solar, if it is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rig Build with FWC Hawk

If this is the passenger side, I too am curious as to why some cut two holes on the rear wing that contains the optional cassette toilet. Every field mouse in the boonies is going to love those access holes.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2016 Fleet Replacement Batteries -- AGM 24 DP

By keeping the battery on a maintainer when in storage to provide a float charge, I got 7 years of use from my 85Ah VMAX. My only regret was how heavy an AGM batteries is and I'm getting too old for heavy lifting. Happy camping.

I first downsize my images on a laptop computer, so that each file size is smaller than 500K. After downsizing, I enter the expanded editor by clicking the "More Reply Options" icon - which is below this text box. After this step, there is an option below to upload each image as an attachment.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Power Stations

I wish more portable power stations had an external 12 volt DC output with an Anderson Powerpole connection. That's one of the uses I have for my Bluetti EB70, that then gets recharged from camper's solar panels.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Power Stations

@ m.r.h. - Do consider adding a solar panel in the 160 to 200 watt range to the camper's roof, even if it will be parked under cover for months at a time. Smaller portable power stations are limited to 120 watt output DC - due to the use of a built-in regulated 12 volt DC power supply to bring...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fantastic Fan Question?

Get a good LED flash light to have a look, see into the center portion of the knob. The hole for the screw is deeply recessed into the knob. There should be a Phillips head screw in there.

Once you install a rigid solar panel with whatever mounting hardware, the two 40 lb gas struts up front will be just about right. With the solar install I have pair of 40 lb struts on the front and 30 lb struts on the rear.
