Thanks...adhesive failed. Not good advertisement for FWC. Not steel diamond plating? Way heavy.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BIG changes to FWC's video

Not wanting to be the floater in the punch bowl....but $52K ! Not even fully kitted I would assume....then 3/4 trucks only?....then add a large air conditioner to roof; displace any chance of an second solar panel, add a lot of weight on top of roof and worst of all, I could not get it inside...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Couple things I noticed at 5 degrees F.

Not certain why this tread is so long lived...if you leave water in your system and it goes seriously cold [single digits or lower] then something will freeze and or break... I routinely camp in below zero while skiing...no water in system...7 gallon jug for water inside with me...no catalytic...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacing 2 AGMs with 1 100Ah LiFePO4?

Alaska...Vic nails all the points...would suggest the BB100ah internally heated LiPO4....you will never regret it....along with upgrades Vic mentioned...I did this and can use '16 Hawk in subzero conditions...DC/DC and my 330 w of solar along with the BMS/heater keeps everything online...BB has...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How we find our way around in the empty western lands

I always operated on the assumption that the cost of a map was only in proportion to the use. I do most of my adventures solo, so the cost of a map is not significant in that context...I tear out pages from Benchmark Map books to cover where I am or could wander to and put them in a zip lock...

Only thing I can add is to learn to read the terrain features from the topographic map you are carrying....takes practice but you start to visualize the map in 3D... Phil "Not lost, just wandering" B)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How we find our way around in the empty western lands

Add to that this effective mantra: The OODA loop (observe, orient, decide, act) was developed by military strategist and United States Air Force Colonel John Boyd. All comes back to logical, objective decision making, skills sets and knowledge....tough to teach, but by example it isn't.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How we find our way around in the empty western lands

Yup...been there and walked/swam in circles...here is my approach...I use this topside and underwater....before leaving starting point I take a reciprocal compass bearing, essential UW when diving, this is my return vector..I assume at worst I will/may be laterally on the return the reciprocal...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Four wheel camper in bear country

Wow...lots of legs on this topic! I must modify my previous post. Only firearm I carry in the Hawk if I am in bear country, that actually has bears, is my 12ga pump shotgun... Several years ago I got the Canadian permit needed to enter and carry the shotgun [Winchester Marine] going into and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rooftop AC

Unit looks nice...question; "18amp" does that mean it will draw 18amps per hour? Will your battery [s] handle that? Also it is 100 lbs plus weight of roof....there are means to lift mechanically....lifting inside can be cramped, especially the first lift at the rear...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need more power Scotty!

Ha, with my 100aH BB the lowest I have drawn it down is about 80%; even with multi days my 330 w solar is always keeping BB charged above that [snow days are an exception and then DC/DC is golden]...but I get the point....how much load for how long is the deciding combo...what I don't grasp is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need more power Scotty!

Thanks Vic....so if the performance from my DC/DC is what I need and expect, "overheating' is a non-issue for me as it self-regulates the temps.. '"no contact/no foul". Thanks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need more power Scotty!

Educate me...I also have a DC/DC and have never noticed the heat generated [enclosed in battery box]...perhaps it is getting hot? So, what are the negative consequences of the charger getting hot? And not using a cooling fan? Installer never mentioned this as an issue.... Thanks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No Jack Brackets

Watch FWC videos showing them sliding a Hawk [?] into a truck....they use lifting plates / extension shafts on the side/middle of the "wings" sticking out from the floor box... Perhaps you can rent them? RV service centers should have them; hopefully to rent or just borrow. I have 4 new...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Obviously...I am not an acoustic engineer...but I have arrived at the same conclusions as I have stated in my posts....I am not addressing a re-design of the top sheet; that is not within my purview or ability. However, of the four potential remedies listed above only adding mass/stiffness to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Respectfully I do not believe any amount of sound dampening / sound proofing material would stop the loud oil canning booming racket from being heard ....I believe you must stop the movement of the distorted and slack areas in the top sheet to eliminate the oil canning noise..thicker foam board...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Ted you said "FWC did take my roof apart " was that to address an oil canning problem? What did FWC do when they removed the top sheet? Whatever the issue did they fix it? Thanks...Phil

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Concur...but honestly if FWC does not, will not step up, how would I or any FWC owner induce them to: #1 Acknowledge there is a problem with the design, material or installation of the single piece top sheets and; #2 Remedy the oil canning issue through repair or replacement of the top sheet...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Yes I mentioned reversing the fans and pressurizing the interior....then opening the door and shutting off fans could potentially drop the pressure quickly...either event might produce oil canning; up or down...anyone can try that and so will I....two fans like I have may be needed....this might...
