RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma wind struggles?

Like said....33" wheels on your combo are counter productive...not just in height, CG and wind, but those 33" wheels and tires weigh a ton and they are un-sprung weight which takes more to move down the road....style vs function.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Filling the jack mount tubes

Interesting ..my '16 Hawk only has 9 screws per jack attachment plate [see post #8]....good idea to hand tighten to confirm; but honestly my jacks are still new in the boxes...dealer used his to put FWC into my Tundra and unless in the future I need to remove the Hawk, the jacks will never be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wilderness Areas Rules

Not wishing to inflame this discussion....but Wilderness designation does not necessarily mean "untrammeled"....once on a through hike in the Trinity Wilderness I came to the only spring for miles around for water. The spring and meadow were destroyed by cattle. Later a pack train passed me on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Filling the jack mount tubes

Craig, OK, finally really took a look at the mounting plates....screws indeed; 5 on fore and aft side of the plates and 4 on lateral surfaces. Small, guessing 3/8"? Here is my thought....how many have had any issues with the manner in which FWC mounted those plates? Non-problem? Secondly...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Filling the jack mount tubes

Since nobody has chimed in...I checked my '16 Hawk and the "tube" [box aluminum tube? Part of frame?] you refer to that the jack plates are mounted to are internal to outside siding and not visible for inspection....what did I miss? Curious now, why would they fill them with wood and what...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vent mod

Craig, What are you venting? Also if there is space, get one large enough to reach through and put stuff in or take out...if that is needed. My sea kayaks have I believe 8" hatch covers....with o-rings. Phil

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk on Tundra Help!

Concur with "...taking your time to load." Don't sell anything until you have taken the time to repeatedly slide the Hawk into the bed of theTundra....it takes patience and practice to keep Hawk aligned down the center of the bed and with the same clearance between the wheel wells.. So far I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk on Tundra Help!

I have been in communications with Geneis...our '05 Tundra SR5 AC [with Rhino Liner like theirs] and '16 Hawk...Our Hawk [box] cleared the wheel wells by 1/2" on each side and cleared the rear inboard bed extensions where tailgate [removed] mounted by about 1/8" on each side....so yes, it will...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Side mount for kayak ideas?

I will state the obvious..no free lunch...on top or sides loads limit the clearances...with our Hawk we have had inches of clearance to the sides and in height...if your use makes clearance issues non-critical then go for it.. also, again just me, but weight up high makes it tough to raise top...
