    Mangled Roof Strut

Yup. Between what I was told and what my sometimes faulty logic tells me I came to the same conclusion. It is not quite as "precision" as I feared. Right now the holes are filled with a piece of a plastic bag and covered with tape.

    Mangled Roof Strut

Oh, I want to repair it but wanting and getting are not the same thing. I was told I could move the bracket over a bit otherwise I would have to do an extraction and retap with bigger screws but they would have to still fit the holes on the bracket (I've learned A LOT of things the hard way)...

That is what I was told and what I intend to do.

    Mangled Roof Strut

I don't think I'll ever know for certain what happened - if the outer screw came loose before or after the inner one sheared off. I wonder if it could have been something as simple as a Jeffrey Pine cone. I jumped when I heard one hit my camper the last time I was out. Free-fall - there was no...

    Mangled Roof Strut

This is what the bracket looks like. I figure it took more than a little force to bend that thing.

    Mangled Roof Strut

Thanks for looking. I'm going to call Marty - I definitely need more information. And then I need to get a broken screw out. And a new bracket - I should get a photo and post it.

    Mangled Roof Strut

IGS part # ICU416885BB0134, 30 lb The strut still has gas (I have lived a large part of my life with non working struts on a camper shell) so I may be able to reuse it? I don't know - And thanks for the images - I did get the mangled bracket off thanks to Youtube and I can see how using that...

    Mangled Roof Strut

The lift was fine up until recently. I think it may be a chicken/egg kind of thing. And yes - I'll call Marty.

    Mangled Roof Strut

Yup - I figured that would be the next step.

    Mangled Roof Strut

Ok. Thanks to Dirt Farmer Jay on Youtube I was able to remover the bracket from the strut. edit to add: the strut I removed is longer than the other one - hmmmm -

    Mangled Roof Strut

The rear panel had become difficult to lift - like it was catching on something. I discovered that one of the struts was mangled - looks like one screw on the upper bracket was loose, the other one sheared off and the bracket is bent. There was nothing I could do but remove it - I can still lift...

    Current Spike in Gas Prices

For a month or so the store in Walker had a lower price than Topaz. Instead of raising the price just because they waited until a new delivery. I didn't know what the price was currently because I have not been to that end of town for a week or so - it is like, a mile or so away.

    Current Spike in Gas Prices

That's the thing - Bridgeport had gas over $5/gal more than ten years ago. If it followed the inflation rate what would we be paying now? But yeah - I get your point - and I also don't drive much - I don't have to. My camping trip last week was about 20 miles from home. I rarely leave my...

    Current Spike in Gas Prices

I haven't been in that area for almost 20 years so may memory may be (is likely) faulty. I did hear about the fire in Lucia. I read that gas in the community of Big Sur was over $7/gal.

    Current Spike in Gas Prices

Over $6/gal in Bridgeport too - no surprise. Last I saw it is still under $5 in Walker, not too far behind even at Topaz and points north into Nevada.

Where do you get water refills on road trips?

I believe that water source is courtesy of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Just don't even consider drinking it. I don't know how it tests out biologically but it tastes like chewing on a lead pipe. Also anything from a faucet in the town of Mammoth Lakes tastes like a public...

    Northern Lights Observed in Nevada

I have a friend who lived in the Yukon. She says a midnight walk to the outhouse was cold but stunning.

You know you're a geezer when.......................

songs from the '80s? I must be a REAL old geezer - I walk around singing '60s R&B, just about any Beatles song and even some Cole Porter while I try to remember why I came into a room.

    Current Spike in Gas Prices

Is there a gas station in Lucia? I thought I remembered seeing the highest price gas ever there back in 2002.

If it is less than $5/gal it most certainly is not Bridgeport.

    Nice outing down the coast

I was thinking about you when I heard about the road closure. After your cancellations this summer I am so glad you got this trip and I hope you get many more.

    Really? Seriously?

I have a "deck" right out the back door of my camper. It is also known as the ground.

    Fall In

The larch is such an unusual tree. And even though I lived in Idaho for only a short time I miss the huckleberries. Especially the milkshakes in Victor. I worked for the chiropractor across the street from the Victor Emporium. On random occasions someone would come across the highway and deposit...
