My new Raven just arrived and is being installed

Congratulations. Great looking rig! Now you can enjoy camping without all the hassle. One comment....replace the FWC thermostat with an inexpensive (cheapo) programmable thermostat from Walmart. It is much more precise and you can program it to turn on the furnace 20 minutes before you get...

    Low Cost Mods

I like my FWC a lot, but they could take some pointers on the cabinet build. Get rid of the little drawer....and install the larger fridge!

Fuel tank size also seems to be question although Transfer Flow is based here in Chico I believe. I have the 47 gallon Transfer Flow tank and love it.

    Solar pre-wiring

My plan is to use those wires, figure out how the attach to the panel, extend them from where they terminate (at water tank) to inside my battery compartment, connect to MPPT controller, connect to battery (only inches away, and same temperature), and install the remote monitor somewhere clean...

    Air Compressor Installation

I'll guess that the filter mounts with pipe threads. So with a few fittings and some 1/2" hose you should be good. Yep....thanks for the idea.

    Air Compressor Installation

Pretty cool! A word of caution though, being down low like that I would bring the air intake up high into the engine bay. Because of the lower pressure behind ambient air I'd suggest using one step larger hose than you used for the discharge. That's a good idea! They do sell a remote mount...

    Air Compressor Installation

Here's the compressor, 100 amp relay and tank mounted on the frame rail: Here's the custom skid plate installed: Quick disconnect installed at rear on trailer hitch: This compressor is awesome. I can now air up tires or run air tools where ever I am out in the boonies. Notice the 4 gauge...

    Air Compressor Installation

Finally got around to installing the air compressor. I did the research and was impressed by the ExtremeAir Magnum Compressor. This is the compressor I purchased: http://www.extremeoutback.com/product/14/ExtremeAire+Magnum.html Here is a link from Expedition Portal with some great videos...

    recharging computer and camera batteries

When laptops are concerned....it wastes a lot of energy (that's where the heat comes from) to use an inverter with the 110 v laptop charger. You are far better off to purchase the OEM 12 volt charger (not generic) for your computer and just plug that into a 12v socket in your camper. The OEM...

I went to the FWC factory on Monday - here's my build list

I really love the 14 speed fan. I have one in both front and back vents. You need the back one for cooking exhaust and general cooling.....and you need the front one to put a nice quiet cool breeze on you at night when you are sleeping in certain temperatures.

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

I put a small piece of reflectix on the inside of the door, not sure if it did anything, every little bit helps I guess. My only thought is that maybe the CR-1110 Leadsled is using has a larger freezer so when it is full, it holds the colder temps better...? I was all set to buy the...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

Any idea what you are pulling for total amp hours in a 24 hour span? I think I was getting around 45AH in warm weather, pre-super insulation and see about 20-25AH in cold weather with the wrap. It's really hard for me to judge this time of year....since the sun only hits the camper roof for 3...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

My fridge is completely sealed off from the camper so no dust will come in. I'm refering to the back vents. There is a large vent/door on the bottom and a smaller fixed vent (not a door) on the top. I might try sealing off the larger vent/door with reflectix and see what effect that has. I'm...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

When I was ready to install my fridge I called FWC for some advise. One of the things Terry told me to do was to seal off the lower vent (they actually sell a solid door to replace the vent/door on the bottom) and leave the top vent open. I wonder if that is to make the fridge cycle more often...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

My only thought is that maybe the CR-1110 Leadsled is using has a larger freezer so when it is full, it holds the colder temps better...? Plus I'm quite certain that mine is...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

Mine, too -- I don't have as big a difference between the freezer and fridge temps as I'd like, not as big as leadsled9 is measuring. Hey! I just had an idea -- applicable to my Isotherm, if not other makes/models: Put a little insulation around the freezer (my freezer is not full-width) to...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

I've been monitoring mine for the past few days. I've noticed exactly the same behavior. When it was intially cooling down (compressor running all the time) the freezer got down to -20. After the compressor stopped running all the time the freezer went up to -5. The nights have been mid 30's...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

"2.6 CFM @ 100 psi" Impressive... Yeah...and a lot of compressors are "Continuous Duty" at 0 psi....this one is still "Continuous Duty" at 150 psi.

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

Total side track: What kind of compressor are you planning? Small tank somewhere under the truck? I've had a York AC pump in use as an air compressor for years on my off-road truck. With a 3 gallons tank and a couple quick connect fittings it was great! But adapting one to my modern vehicles...

Replaced fridge - Norcold 3.0 3-way with Dometic 3.8 DC

Thanks for the response, Leadsled9 I have the 3.0 cu ft Norcold and I can see what you mean about the door frame. Thanks for the heads up on that. BX Well, even though it was a tight fit....it looks like the cabinet was made for it. You wouldn't know it wasn't a factory install. I sealed the...

    Incident at Battle Creek!

Question: Doesn't the stretchy recovery strap decrease the amount of 'take-up' available to you when you are using either a cable hoist or a hi-lift? You are correct! If you are using a come-a-long you are better off using chain. For yanking on a vehicle you are better off with a recovery...
