RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Can a full size diesel truck do Dedeckera Canyon?

I made the mistake of pulling my trailer down a nasty jeep trail in 2010 in Arizona. I ended up ripping both fenders off the trailer and bending the axle. It cost me $1100 to put Humpty Dumpty back together. Lesson learned. No nasty jeep trails when I have my trailer with me. The axle was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Battery charging

Thanks for that thread. I'll probably do that. I have two batteries in the camper, but it should still work, right? Yep, I have two batteries too.....works like a charm.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Battery charging

Yeah, that's what I'll do. I just didn't want the electrical cord running across the garage floor all the time. Get yourself one of these nifty devices and enjoy improved battery charging while plugged into shore power. Cheap and they work great...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Battery charging

My camper has a solar panel. The camper is stored in the garage. Is the ambient light, from when the garage door is open occasionally, enough to provide a charge to the camper batteries? Probably not. Why not just plug it in? End of problem.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping, in Oakland?

I will check into this spot if we end up camping, Redwoods at night would be sweet! The Oakland Hills is one of my favorite spots and I spend a lot of time there. My archery club, The Redwood Bowmen is located right next to the Chabot Space Center. In fact we share a multi-story parking...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping, in Oakland?

Dang it, Darryl’s idea was looking pretty good. We talked a bit today and the consensuses seems to be 1 Volkswagen, 4 people and a hotel room, probably the cheapest route in the long run. Sounds like a better solution to me. All you have to do is cruise the BART parking lots looking for the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping, in Oakland?

You can camp at Del Valle Lake in Livermore. Each day, you can drive to BART in Dublin. Get on BART and exist at the Broadway Station and walk to wherever you need to go. Darryl The problem with that is you have to leave your FWC parked in the BART parking lot all day. I've had two vehicles...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Will a Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, or Toyota Tacoma need suspension upgrades?

I started with a 1/2 ton truck and graduated to a 3/4 ton. You will be much happier with a larger truck that was designed to carry (and stop) the load.

Thought you two would just pull those nice seats out of the Mercedes! :D Then my chair problem would be solved.....but I'd be looking for a new girlfriend! I like the one I've got....so it was easier to just buy another chair.

Once it arrives (and once my Lagun cockpit table bracket arrives and I get it installed) camping will be perfect! MarcBC, I see you bit the bullet and purchased a Lagun Table Mount.....you'll love it. I purchased one more Strong Back chair as my girlfriend stole mine! Now we both have one.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby dinette comments wanted

Hows does the wall mounted a/c work out for you? It would sure be nice to have a/c out here in the humid part of the country during the summer months. 1) install the Arctic Pack 2) after camper air is super heated....open camper door and turn both Fantastic Vent fans on high for a few...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby dinette comments wanted

I think I actually gained storage with the FWC factory dinnette conversion. There is a slider that goes between the boxes and I can store large items in there (generator, box of food, etc.) FWC installs another cabinet in the corner when doing their dinnette conversions so I can actually store...

Mr. BC, are you going to start on the mods to make it do the above? My girlfriend has heated massage seats in her Mercedes S550.....so we should be able to have them too while we are camping. Right?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby dinette comments wanted

I don't own a Granby...but instead own a Hawk. The dinette was a great upgrade that my girlfriend and I just love. It works great for us. I originally had the couch and crappy table....but later had FWC do the dinette conversion. Much nicer now.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A better chair: The Strongback Chair

The Chaheati: In the interests of full disclosure I purchased this as a novelty item. It does work. On max its too hot to sit on. Its mostly a butt heater. The wires don't fully extend up the back. I didn't purchase the car charger figuring its a 12v battery and I have a ton of chargers for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Can in Your Truck Camper?

I carry my gas in Wedco Nato (non-CARB) cans, and have never had any leaks. They also hold a seal going through 10,000 foot elevation changes. So I would feel okay with carrying them inside the camper if it was diesel, but with gas it is still a bit worrying. If you had a tiny leak in your set...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Can in Your Truck Camper?

I respectfully disagree provided one is carrying their gas in a CARB approved can, which is properly closed. I have bought gas for my lawn mower, and carried it home inside my car without smelling a wife of gasoline. I store said gas can in my garage and have never smelled gasoline until I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Can in Your Truck Camper?

If you have gasoline mounted on the exterior of your vehicle and are involved in a collision your vehicle may be turned into a fireball. That picture with all of that gasoline directly over the truck roof is crazy. No way I'd do it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best truck for an Eagle/Bobcat?

X2 what rotti said. For long trips....you'd be much happier with a 3/4 ton truck....which ever brand you prefer. I often take trips from 1 month to 6 weeks and the extra capacity if very nice.
