RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hallmark Ute

Several of you pointed out that braking would be a problem and it was: coming out of a tunnel on Washington's Hwy 20, we almost lost it around a corner hubby took too fast and brakes weren't up to cutting speed fast enough. A scare that had us rethinking our options plus Tacoma was just too...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Options?

And I'm curious if anyone has the new gooseneck LED reading light? How do you like it? Any feedback appreciated. One thing to keep in mind is that if you don't order an electrical option....you can't add it later because the wiring won't be in place. I have the led light and use it all the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trucks/2012 GMC 2500HD/2012 Toyota Tundra

The new ones have big disc brakes. Mine never had any trouble stopping downhill with the camper. Of course, the 3/4 should be even better. My Ford 3/4 ton has massive 4 wheel disk brakes. No more whimpy drum rear brakes for me!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wire shorts at the front lift panel

When I first got my camper I was surprised that FWC was using stiff wire meant for static household applications. For applications that are subjected to flexing and vibration you need a fine stranded wire with compliant insulation. I agree, the stiff wire used was a large part of the problem.

I remember a friend telling me about that but never looked up the video, that was nice. I'm still in the thought process and will have to drive them both, it might be hard to switch from team Toyota so we'll see. I truly love my Tundra....it now has 205,000 miles on it and still going strong...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trucks/2012 GMC 2500HD/2012 Toyota Tundra

They're right, of course, to get a 3/4T for about the same price....but...the Tundra did tow the almost 300,000 pound Space Shuttle...stock You can shave a gorilla....but that don't make it a house pet. I'd rather tow the Space Shuttle with a 3/4 ton truck too.

You are far better off putting your Hawk on a 3/4 ton truck....so get the GMC.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wire shorts at the front lift panel

Does any one have a permanent fix for this situation. Anyone else have this situation and what how did you handle it? I have a 2010 Hawk and exact same thing happened to me. I no longer have any wires being pinched by the panel. I rerouted the wires. Since I have the artic pack and leave...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lagun Style Table Mount

Yup, this is correct. Only friction and downward force held the original mount together. Someone should do a youtube video of a traditional table mount coming apart while driving fast down washboard. My original table came apart simply due to my putting a 17" laptop on it. The entire...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lagun Style Table Mount

One question: With your old table style, why did you need to stow the table parts when you drove? It's not clear -- to me -- from your "before" photo that you'd need to. I couldn't leave my original table mounted because bouncing down bumpy jeep trails would bounce the table right off of...

I like to learn from other peoples experience. When it's replacement time....I'll go with Ranchos. I've used them in the past and never had a problem with them. In all fairness....I ran Bilsteins on my Tundra for many years and never had a problem...but with the economy the way it is....and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winch bumper installed

If you get your cable pinched in the spool.....just hook the cable to a stout tree.....make sure the winch is in neutral.....and just back up. Works every time. Then put the line under tension and respool....you are good to go.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Raccoons

What kind of traps do you use? Have you put them in the engine compartment too or just on the tires? That sounds like a good solution. I use large rat traps. They work great. I put one on top of each tire and several more in the engine conpartment. On my last trip to Colorado (6 weeks), I...

After 40 years of thousand of miles with no problems with twin tubes and then going through two sets of 5100's in just a few hundred miles, I'd say I've done the acid test. I'm back to twin tubes, expecting many thousands of reliable service as I have had over the last decades. What twin tube...

I haven't had any critters get into my camper, but on a couple of long trips (vehicle not moving for long periods of time) I have had problems with critters attacking my vehicle. Once, a packrat built a nest in the engine compartment of my Tundra....chewing up the surrounding wires in the...
