    First V-2 Production Model

Some pictures of the first production V-2 on the Expedition Portal XP thread. A great looking camper! (Sigh, if only it were in my price range...)

Where do you go when you gotta go?

Thanks for the heads-up Stew. Now it all makes sense to me. This is the first I had heard of American Adventurist (which probably says a lot more about my lack of social media skills than the presence of the organization!). I'll have to look into it.

Where do you go when you gotta go?

I guess I don't quite understand the question: It seems that wherever I camp I am faced with either of 2 scenarios. 1.- Established campground with lots of people around and some sort of permanent toilet. 2.- Off-the-beaten-track "primitive" camping with very few people around and a nice...

Removing stock trailer hitch from 2nd gen Tacoma

The bumper attaches to the hitch in 3 places. 1-At the reciver. 2+3 -Where the hitch brackets attach to the frame. But there are plenty of 2nd Gen. Tacomas out there without any hitch, so there must be some alternate hardware available for those trucks. You might even find someone wanting a...

    Coffee maker

Long ago I had a girlfriend who made her coffee this way, but she would strain it as she poured through a cotton sock saved just for this purpose. She said this was called "Dirty Sock" coffee and was quite common in Puerto Rico.

    Carson to Wellington Backcountry Byway

Thanks for the report! The Pine Nut Mountains have always been a blank spot on the map for me. Now they are on my list. I think the cloud formation is a lenticular cloud which often form over the Sierra crest.

Bendable Solar Panels and Compressor Refrigerators

How about using a non sticky-backed velcro and attaching it to the panel with VHB tape or something of the sort? Or do VHB and similar products have the same problem with TPT plastic? "...They said that dual lock 3m velcro would hold the panel no problem, however, the adhesive will not bond...

    Fishing gear questions?

Hah! You beat me by a year. Mine dates from 1979 when I first fished with flies (unsuccessfully) on our honeymoon. The very same. Also a friend of Richard Brautigan if my sources and my memory are correct. For anyone fishing in California I also highly recommend Ralph Cutter's Sierra Trout...

    Fishing gear questions?

Polarized glasses let you see what's under the water much better in most light conditions, especially handy for small streams and ponds.

ARB Awings - Anyone Have Experience with them?

I'm afraid I can't help you there. My last camper was a VW. (the red one in this picture)

    Death Valley National Park Roads

In the past quite a few old cabins and quite a bit of native vegetation has disappeared one stick at a time for campfire fuel. Not to mention the black ash left behind at popular back country spots. However, if you bring your own fire wood and your own portable fire container or barbecue Park...

ARB Awings - Anyone Have Experience with them?

I had an ARB awning on my last camper. It worked great! A little more time-consuming to set up than a Fiamma but quite sturdy and serviceable. It's much easier to set up with two people, especially in a wind. Speaking of wind, as long as the outside corners were properly anchored with the...

Honda Element? Lots of room, fuel economy about 2 to 3 mpg worse than Outback. There was an all wheel drive model too.

Propex Heatsource Furnace Installation Report in FWC Eagle Shell

Very nice install! I recently received a Propex that I will be installing soon. The instructions which came with the heater state that the full length of the intake and exhaust tubing must be used in order for the heater to work properly. Did you find this to be true? I'm guessing from your...

Does anybody use skid plate or rock sliders

I fixed that for you... Maybe you've only tried to lift a vehicle with a hi-lift jack from the front or back in which case you are entirely correct: A very unstable proposition. Jacking from the side, however, is quite a different story.

    Fishing gear questions?

Perfect! One day on the water with an experienced fisherman will put you well on your way to discovering why so many of us spend so much time trying to outwit animals with brains smaller than a marble! I'll put in a plug for catch-and-release here: In some fisheries, such as the High Sierra...

Does anybody use skid plate or rock sliders

I agree whole-heartedly with this! Much more control when lifting with the high lift from the sides (sliders) than from the ends.(bumpers) When you lift from one end, that end of the truck wants to swing downhill just before the second of the two wheels at that end comes off the ground. As...

http://www.customroto.com/rvtanks.asp?Description=Water+Tanks http://www.plastic-mart.com/category/33/rv-water-tanks Lots of choices here, but as others have pointed out you will have to figure out the fittings and their locations that will work for your camper. Both 4WC and ATC have tanks...

Vehicle Lift, how high can you go carrying a camper?

Suspension lifts can be a valuable tool, as stated by others here, for increasing approach angle, departure angle, and breakover angle. Any lift over about 2" above stock unloaded height may necessitate a front differential drop on an independent front suspension vehicle. This is because the...
