RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bristlecone Pines

Haha! That’s my wife doing her best Eskimo impression. It was indeed cold on the lake. In the 30s.

I'm always amazed at how every fish is distinctively different. The markings and colors are our a treat to behold.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bristlecone Pines

We decided to head over to Shave Lake as it was only 2 hours away and we've had multiple generations of fun in that area. The lake was full to the brim, beautiful and not a soul on it but us. Had some good chilly paddles and hikes and even found a few rainbows. Thought we might make it to Mono...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bristlecone Pines

Well no luck on seeing the bristlecones, not even close. The plan was to head up over Tioga pass and to Lundy Valley , Mono lake, Benton and then the pine forest. the pass was open when we left in the morning, but when we got to Yosemite, it was closed. Time for a new plan! We messed about in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Side dinette vs rear dinette vs ?

Sitting at my side dinette drinking coffee and staring at the lake as I write this. 34*F outside 68* inside. Wife still in bed. I love the space of the side dinette configuration. With the bed pulled out to a king I can sit at the table with my feet up and a nice backrest. Couldn’t do that with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ARB Twin Compressor on ‘19 Tundra

Make sure you connect the red yellow wire to a fuse that only has power when the ignition is on. The compressor will not work unless this wire is connected. My Chevy had a mounting plate meant for a second battery. That is where I mounted my compressor. I also mounted the switch under the hood...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bristlecone Pines

Thanks Ski ! SO by the looks of you road status details, the roads to the pines are currently open. I can park at the visitor center and hike out. Is there a loop trail or is it up and back? What is the approximate distance from the parking to the bristlecones?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bristlecone Pines

I heard it closes down in September. I will make some calls this week and hopefully get a confirmation. Nice to hear your recommendation that it is well worth visiting!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bristlecone Pines

So far every time we have been near the forest off of 395 to the 168 out of Big Pine, the roads have been closed. We have yet to make it to the Bristlecones usually because of snow. We are staying at Benton this Sunday an Monday and would like to give it another shot. Can any of you folks from...

I turned these beautifully colored fillets into another round of smoked trout candy last night. SO yummy!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fall Fish'n

My wife is an arborist and had a training/certification to attend this week out of town. A sensible man would use his home alone time to catch up on chores about the house. I guess I'm not sensible. I used the time as an invitation to go find and catch fish. Nice weekday getaway at the lake...

The first ones of the season are always the most tasty. Reports have been great locally from Moss Landing to Half Moon Bay. Get ya butter and lemon ready.

I headed back to the dock and fired up the pot with some Old Bay. A curious harbor seal was looking for a handout.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Foraging Mountains to Sea

On a morning hike in the hills behind the house, I stumbled on an early season patch of chanterelle mushrooms. I harvested what I could carry and headed home. I fired up the boat and headed out into the pea soup fog. Thank heavens for GPS and radar! Commercial crab has not opened here, but the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Made the switch to LiFePO4

Same here! I have two 150ah AGM's from my other camper hooked up in the garage with 200w of solar and an inverter. I charge all of my power tools and lawn equipment batteries. It also makes a great power bank when we lose power :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Carrying bikes on front of First Gen Tundra

Just to offer another option, this is what works well for us. We did not want the extra weight of a hitch + bike rack. We also often tow a boat, so this has been an awesome solution for us.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Universal solar connector for roof-mounted panel?

+1 on the polarity. Also look into the right angle type of connectors. They allow you to mount the panel above the port for a lower profile. Also protects the plug a bit. I cut off the ends on mine and spliced directly to a splitter for a second panel.

Cant wait to watch it. Love that stuff, thanks! Another goody I'm sure everyone has seen, but just incase, check out Alone in the Wilderness. Dick Proenneke is quite the master craftsman and survivalist.
