    RFI: Bosque del Apache

I'm of the opinion that the Buckhorn Burger is superior to the GCCB at the Owl. There's a good, family-run traditional New Mexican food restaurant in town too - the name escapes me, but just ask any of the locals. The Birder's RV Park is just outside the refuge boundary. Nothing fancy, but lots...

In Search of Autumn Color - Colorado

There is a new adventure posted on Bosque Bill's Backroads travel & camping blog. I spent the first week of October exploring southwest and south central Colorado camping and looking for autumn color. I found color, beautiful scenery and a bit of adventure, too! I broke the narrative into...

    Low Cost Mods

Turns out the bottom of the cup holder on the console (the one to the rear of the shifter) of my Tacoma is flat and level with the truck. I put a bull's-eye bubble level there to get the camper level. It's not glued down, doesn't have to be. Works great.

    Thermal Breaker Insulators

Clever and appropriate. I've look at those bare posts whenever I open the hood and think I should do something. Now I've got a plan… if I just remember where I've got the wire nuts stored.

Wandering the West for Pastries and other Baked-Goods and Sweet Treats

Archangeli Grocery, a.k.a. Norms Market, in Pescadero, CA (between SF and Santa Cruz). Their artichoke garlic herb sourdough bread is to die for!

    don't buy this folding step

I concur with John. I got mine from eTrailer.com. The steps are solid and secure. They're always in the same place so you don't even have to look at your feet (important for me as it is easier to exit the camper butt first.) They never shift or slide. I can stand on the bottom step and lean in...

Northern New Mexico & south central Colorado - June 2014

There are two new adventures posted on Bosque Bill's Backroads travel & camping blog. Both are from the same trip. The first covers northern New Mexico and it book-ends the second about south central Colorado. Lots of nice photos. Click on 'em to see larger versions (highly recommended.)...

Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

The inReach SE is not perfect, there are areas that need improvement, such as the user interface, but nothing else does as much as it does at near the price. I received a text from a friend this last trip and used my paired phone to reply. It took a long time for the message to go out - I was...

    The Tale of the Mouse

I got a big, little surprise when I went to put a few supplies into the truck cab last evening. As I opened the small door behind the passenger seat, there was a sleek grey mouse with a long tail. Don't know who was more shocked as we stared at each other for a second before she dove into hiding...

    Lassen National Park

Thanks for the report & photos. Sounds like you had a great trip. I've only been to Lassen once about a zillion years ago. I was on a motorcycle and had a backpacking tent.

Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

I should have posted back to this topic now that I've used the inReach SE for a couple of months. I'm very happy with the unit and the peace of mind it affords. One of the features I use the most is the unlimited Preset Messages, which I call "breadcrumbs". I have three preprogrammed; one for...

2014 Southern Utah of MarkBC: Part 2 -- Capitol Reef N.P.

Another wonderful report & photos, Mark. I need to get back that way. My only time in the area was last May and the Fruita CG was no-vacancy. And since it was HOT and very WINDY, I didn't explore the backroads either.

Moab - Potash Trail to Shafer Switchbacks - Into Canyonlands

Cool photos, Keith. Re: "any vehicle" - could I accomplish all of Potash Trail with my 4WD Tacoma carrying a Fleet camper? Wish I'd known about Potash road when I was there in May. Oh, well, another reason to go back. What's Long Canyon Trail like?
