    Wet floor?

Bill, if the door looks fine, check that the cap on the fresh water tank of your porta-potty is properly fastened. I didn't get mine back on fully one time and water sloshed out onto the floor by the door.

    Emergency/Comm Radio Solo Camping

Here is the thread I started on the inReach. First, I asked about it; then I reported my results after buying one and other folks added their input. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/8569-anyone-using-an-inreach-2-way-satellite-communicator/ I'm happy with the system and will be using...

    Photo & Attachment Explanation

Congratulations, Les, you did it. Following Frank's directions, which is the easiest way, does create the thumbnail that can be clicked for a larger photo. That works just fine in most cases. Typically if you want to post a regular size photo, it needs to be hosted somewhere else, such as...

    Thermal Pack install.

Thanks, Bill, when I got the email notification I was confused, but your "blue" technique for answering worked well once I opened the link back to this post. :)

    Thermal Pack install.

Thanks for the photo essay. I've been thinking about buying the Thermal Pack this year. It's not a necessity, but I've come to think it would sure be nice and not just for cold weather, but to reduce sun heating, as well. I don't think I could sew a substitute so have flirted with the concept of...

Comment by 'Bosque Bill' in media 'Campsite - Bryce Canyon North Campground'

Barry, when I asked at the entrance station about camping in the tent area, they said to check with the camp host, as they make the decision. The host (at that time) said no problem. The RV side was filled with land yachts, so avoid that if you can :-)

    Air Rescue Helicopters

I got coverage though GEOS Alliance for $18/year for my inReach two-way satellite communicator. It provides $100K/yr ($50K/event). This will cover air ambulance and SAR dispatched from a location near you, where ever you need it. Their service works with many brands of satellite devices...

    Storage Between Cab and Camper?

I don't have such a usable space with my small truck, but that won't stop me from posting :) Since you want to protect the camper and keep the chairs from rattling, how about putting them in a fold of artificial turf or synthetic outdoor carpet (plastic so the rain won't affect it.) You could...

    Satellite Radio Antenna

I put the stock XM antenna on the hood of my Tacoma near the FRONT right. Never had the signal blocked by the truck. I ran the wire up along the inside of the hood affixed with gaffers tape. Then it is held onto the hood with its magnet. Due to the design of the Tacoma hood, I cannot even see it...

    Generator in FWC Propane Compartment?

The propane compartment on my FWC Fleet is approximately 17-1/2" deep and the opening is 17-1/2" tall by 10-1/2" wide. I don't know if it is the same on the larger campers, but I'd guess so as this has the two 10# tanks like the others.

    American Southwest - Spring 2006

This is another vintage trip report. When I was living in Austin, TX in 2006 I took a late spring trip to visit friend and family, and to tour a few of the natural sights of the southwest. I drove my Avalon sedan and camped in a very small tent. This was the trip when I decided I was too old to...

    wind deflectors

I was able to buy a pair of Q-towers and a single round bar for my Tacoma. Is this different because of the F-250? I ordered through REI when they had a 20% off all Yakima sale (think they do that once or maybe twice a year, ask) - the local store didn't have the clips or single bar, so order it...

    wind deflectors

I prefer deflectors attached to the truck cab, so the force of the wind - and especially those high-energy gusts from passing big-rigs - is transferred directly to the truck and not via the camper mounting hardware. This seems better to me, even though not as cool or convenient as a unit...

    Rotopax 4 gallon

When I was figuring out where to store extra gas, I discarded storage in the rear or front that could be hit in a small collision by another vehicle - maybe that is a bit alarmist, but didn't want a minor accident to become major due to the gas. I had a custom rack/box built that bolted under...

    wind deflectors

If you search this forum you will find lots of threads on this topic. Personally, I use the standard Yakima rack fairing on a single bar with locking posts. Safe, stable, no holes, not cheap, but quality. Less road noise and much less buffeting from the wind and passing large trucks. I thought...

    2015 Tacoma: Now what?

I can't comment directly on your OEM 4600's, but typical stock shocks are tuned for an unloaded, or lightly loaded, vehicle. The 5100's are specifically designed for heavy loads, yet retain a good ride in street conditions or unloaded. I've never felt the need to enhance the leaf springs after...

    2015 Tacoma: Now what?

On my 2013 access-cab Tacoma & Fleet, I've very happy with my BFG AT KO's (note the KO2's are out now) and Firestone airbags. The Bilstein 5100's really helped with the stability and feeling of safety in the ride. I'd recommend getting the air bags and shocks before picking up your camper, then...

Northern California, Oregon and Mount St. Helens by Motorcycle

The camper is keeping warm in the garage and I have not taken any trips this winter, but I did find an old trip report from 1996 you may enjoy. I've included freshly scanned photos, doctored up best I could in Photoshop. When I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area I rode my motorcycle up to...

Security Screws in 4 Wheel Fleet

Are you referring to screw heads with the square hole? If so, those are called Robertson head screws (or square drive) and the ones FWC uses are #2 size. The only place found a driver locally was Sears; neither Lowes nor Home Depot had them. Wasn't very expensive as I recall and I keep it in the...

    Tacoma Tires

I bought the BFGoodrich All Terrain you mention and went ahead and got the E rated sidewalls for my 2013 Tacoma and Fleet. I got the identical size as the originals. The price differential is not really all that much and when ever I bump over one of those rocky mountain backroads in Colorado...
