San Juan Mountains of Colorado - Areas south of Telluride and Ouray

Thanks, Ski, I wasn't really planning a specific fall color trip this year, yet stumbled into great a great aspen experience which made it even better. I know what you mean. Some beautiful camping areas have been used and abused by the hordes. It doesn't help that the USFS has been under such...

Colorado Wildflower Tour - July 2021

After issues with my camper last time out, I ended up replacing my compressor refrigerator and AGM batteries to address those issues. I also replaced my solar controller with a more modern unit for good measure. All that took much longer than I’d hoped so wasn’t able to get out again until a...

Spring trip to Utah & New Mexico

Thanks, Smoke. Local, mobile RV service came out on Tuesday to check out fridge. They couldn't really do much - these units are not serviceable, but seemed to agree with what I'd concluded, that the compressor system was malfunctioning. They checked with their distributor on cost of...

Wind deflectors and Aero mods for fuel economy.

You will find this topic has been discussed a number of times before. If you can't find those threads using the WTW search, I suggest using Google and add "site:wanderthewest.com" to your search terms (without the quotes) that's way more effective. FWIW I use the standard Yakima deflector on my...

Spring trip to Utah & New Mexico

Finally, I got out on the backroads and am able to post a new trip report. Maybe not ideal to publish on a holiday weekend, but wanted to get it out during the same month as I took the trip. For this first post-pandemic trip I camped in northern New Mexico and southern Utah, and passed through...

wind noise while driving with truck camper?

No, mine was general wind noise. The feet of the Yakama bar press down on the roof (admittedly near the edge) which might help.

wind noise while driving with truck camper?

I had success with a stock Yakima fairing mounted on a single bar. Not cheap, but you do pay for quality.

    Truck Antennas

When I got my after-market XM radio it came with a small magnetic-mount antenna on the end of a long cable. I have it stuck to the hood of my Tacoma a few inches from the front right. I routed the cable under the hood toward the back where I could slip it though the door, then down to under the...

Maxtrax mount on 2020 hawk slide In

I like how easy it looks to set up a table, but would be concerned at the increased width. I've driven where even my Tacoma & Fleet were barely able to squeeze though with limbs scraping the body and camper, buy your travels may be different.

Maxtrax mount on 2020 hawk slide In

I mounted my MaxTrax on the back of the camper as I already have both aux fuel and deployable solar panel under the overhang. Later I bought a lightweight aluminum "bunk bed" ladder, which I lash to the MaxTrax for travel. See: MaxTrax Camper Mount - March 2017 for photos and full description...

Hope you enjoy your new rig, especially considering the aborted first try. Looking forward to your experiences. I only made a few day-trips last year. Hoping to get the vaccine in the next couple months so I can feel more comfortable getting out this season. I've already started daydreaming...
