RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central NM Spring Shakedown - April 2018

Thanks for your "comfortable" comment, Smoke ;-) OpenSpace, congratulations on finding your Red-faced Warbler! That red face is hard to miss even high in the trees. And congratulations, too, on bringing a beautiful hand-woven rug home. Take good care of it and it will last generations. You're...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central NM Spring Shakedown - April 2018

Interesting comment in that I didn't really notice that the vegetation looked particularly bad/dry. Maybe I've become inured to NM in this era of less and less rain. In thinking back, the grasslands on the north side of Gila NF/Wilderness were dry in May such as you would instead expect for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central NM Spring Shakedown - April 2018

I'll remember to take a photo on my next trip with NM cuisine! I did keep my eye on the creek, but the only fish I saw were minnows of undetermined species. I didn't see anyone fishing, either. Thanks, all, for the nice comments. Bill

Cool. It's an interesting design, I think. Perhaps easier to erect in certain types of terrain.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central NM Spring Shakedown - April 2018

Thanks, Foy, again I learned something new. I was thinking the CDT as a single "official" trail. It does make more sense to have other "acceptable pathways."

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central NM Spring Shakedown - April 2018

Just published my first trip of the season. http://bosquebill.blogspot.com/2018/05/central-nm-spring-shakedown-april-2018.html This single post, Tuesday through Friday, covers parts of Cibola NF (Water Canyon, Bear Trap Canyon); Gila NF (Loco Mountain Road, Willow Creek, Tularosa Mtns); and El...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Q: Montezuma Canyon, UT

Anyone have experience driving and/or camping in Montezuma Canyon, San Juan Co, UT? People have mentioned a scenic route through the canyon along Montezuma Creek east of Blanding, but I wasn't able to find anything here on WTW. I know some of it is in BLM land and they have a very short entry...

Rico, this area is on my agenda and when I go I will certainly include details relevant for campers in my trip report.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Q: Dolores River Canyon, CO

Anyone driven or camped in the Dolores River Canyon in SW Colorado? I ran across a photo of the canyon and it looked scenic. I'm talking about the canyon downstream from the reservoir in the village of Dolores. Looks like there are two ways to get in. About 25 miles downstream from the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Staying Cool Without an Air Conditioner

Just don't forget little critters, e.g., mice, can climb into your truck bed and get into the camper through those tie-down doors. They are most active at night. You've been warned ;-) Don't ask me how they do it. They can climb anything it seems. I was leaving the sliding rear window in my cab...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Staying Cool Without an Air Conditioner

I made one of those 12volt swamp coolers in a 10 gallon plastic bucket. It seemed to work great on my back porch. Didn't seem to work well at all in the field. Hopefully, someone else will post with some workable ideas. I don't need one often, but a few times it would be nice.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Small camper (fleet-swift) in a full size truck?

If you want to drive up the hills on the freeway at the speed limit without downshifting, and have the money, then get a larger truck. This is also probably the case if you want to keep your cruise control on full-time - the Tacoma cruise control is not configured for the weight of our campers...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Small camper (fleet-swift) in a full size truck?

Yeah, I do let the truck slow climbing those passes rather than downshifting requiring high RPMs - more time to enjoy the scenery. Though, I guess it just depends upon how much of a hurry you are in and how much money you have to spend on a bigger truck.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Small camper (fleet-swift) in a full size truck?

I have a 2013 4.0L V6 Tacoma Access Cab and have never had problems in the mountains (even very steep trails) lugging my Fleet. If you have the 4 cylinder, consider the V6. If you have the V6, then something is seriously wrong with your engine or drive train - try fixing that before buying a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Battery Storage Setting

The AGM batteries in my 2013 Fleet after 2 months without being charged still had 80% charge. The main power switch was off, of course. Previous years I'd hook up a charger for a couple days each month. This year I decided I'd check the voltage first, so I know they hold charge much better than...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Porch Light

I think it all depends upon your camping style, i.e., how much time in the evening/night you spend outside v. inside. Personally, I only infrequently use the porch light (I did replace the bulb with an LED). I've used the side floods, maybe twice in 4 years. I have the side down-lights and I...

Thanks, Ronin. I try to put route numbers and directions in my posts so others can find those spots (with some exceptions for sensitive areas.) You might find my Map Index useful - go to the header on any post and look for the navigation button for the Map of Locations (I put a big arrow in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Colorado - 2017

I enjoyed viewing all your photos. It's interesting to see someone else's photos of some of my favorite areas and not recognizing them at first :-) Different perspectives, points of view. Yes, you don't want to drive the Last Dollar Road unless the weather has been dry for quite some time -...

There is a “new" adventure posted on Bosque Bill's Backroads travel & camping blog. Sorry it took me so long to get this published. There were lots of photos, so I broke it into four parts. You can begin with the first link below, then follow the links at the bottom of each post to the next...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West CTEK CTX Battery Sense

That's very cool. Thanks for the post. I'm guessing it would also work with two batteries in parallel. I'd have to confirm that the combined capacity is within the specs of the unit - I don't recall my batter size off the top of my head. It would be handy to be able to read the camper battery...
