    Wyoming winter ski tour

Really great use of the right equipment to stay functional in 10-20F temps. We run a Wave 3 also. Sounds like some good powder skiing.

    Kayak on top of camper

It takes two people to do this safely. Our camper actually came with a Hullivator, but I found it to be awkward and a bit dangerous, so I sold it. We've got rollers in the back and saddles in the front. Our boats are 50# and 12' long. I use a wide-step ladder to boost the bow of the...

Thanks Chet I still haven't seen the actual truck, but our plans for summer/fall is to equip the RAM to carry our current Hawk camper. It will be strangely comforting to have our old camper experience on a new, larger truck. Immediate needs will be installing the wiring for to help keep our...

Wow. This stuff is way over my head, Chet! I felt pretty good about replacing my Sprinter antenna this morning, which was half a dozen connections, but all OEM plug & play. Side note: I'll be listing my 2016 4x4 Sprinter in July to finance the new truck. I'll have to see how I like my stock...

Time for me to show my cards. I've placed an order for a 3500 4x4 Tradesman CC with the Hemi 6.4 in the 6.5' bed. Thanks to RamblinChet for helping with the specs. We'll be moving our 08 Hawk to the new truck after a few last summer trips with our current Tundra/Hawk setup.

    Attached Fold Out Shower Enclosures

Technically, not an attached fold out shower enclosure, but a cost effective alternate. popup tent DV tested. Eight years service, with blown zippers, which we've repaired with tabs of velcro. Secured with a carabiner though the spring steel frame with 1" repurposed canvas strap to rear...

Going to Death Valley, a few questions

Fishyhead has the right idea. You can also drive up opposite Lost Burro Mine, heading north towards White Mountain. You follow miles of an old water pipeline. It's an immense bajada and there's roadside DV style camping about the same level as the mouth of Perdido Canyon. Nothing fancy, but...

    My new truck 2021 F350 7.3gas

https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200692234_200692234 Our Hawk came with the same set of steps. They have been great as a safe entrance, and also for loading kayaks on/off the roof. I added 3M non-slip pads after camping in the snow. I was able to fit our stairs on our rear...

Should Trip Reports be a thing of the past ?

We're living in an era of rapid change, driven (pun intended) by reliable 4wd vehicles, smart phones with GPS & apps, and social media. I can't tell you how many times I've cringed reading a post about hot springs, petroglyphs, floral displays or iconic landscape photo locations. "Where is...

First gen Tundra and FWC questions

Congrats on a great rig! First gen Tundra AC owner here with ten years using a Hawk. Agree with your sentiments. A number of folks have replaced the Firestone bolts with grade 8's. I broke two before I made the switch.

    Anyone with a Ram 1500?

Did your 2015 have factory airbags on the rear? I'm interested in the discussion about leaf springs vs coil in the current RAM lineup. Only the 3500 have leaf springs, and 2500 do coils plus optional rear air leveling.

    My new truck 2021 F350 7.3gas

Definitely a step up! What kind of ground clearance are you seeing with the new f350? Are the wheels stock?

    Cast Iron Experimentation

Inquiring minds want to know what kind of cast iron you're sporting there, Mr. Sage. I'm mostly a Griswold fan, but have one Staub.

First gen Tundra and FWC questions

Our 06 Tundra AC with 135k is still going strong with a Hawk after ten years of off road camping. We're looking to change things up soon and I'll probably be selling our truck in a few months. Good luck with your search.

Dixie Valley - the Teds addition

Good to hear and see from a different perspective, Ted's! Love those rock walls. Constant war games, not so much. On a side note, I just was looking at an old quad map of Dixie Valley.

That's quite a portrait of the RBSS, especially with a phone(!). I get them in GV also, with the acorn woodpeckers.

Help Me Make My Hawk a Cozy Ski House

That push stick in our Hawk came with wicked sharp aluminum extrusions. I could quickly imagine sitting up in bed and getting a head wound. I used pipe insulation and duct tape, and haven't looked back in ten years! The top of the push stick holds a water bottle and phones at night. I've...

Canyoneering Fatality in Death Valley National Park

Bad things can happen to experienced groups in locations with objective danger. It sounds like the rock under him just gave way, which led to a significant rockfall.

Questions regarding "So, you want to setup a good electrical system in your camper?"

Very clear write up, Vic! You may not realize how much value you bring to the forum with your concise and informative writeup. We've also upgraded to a 100ah LiFePo4 after going through two AGM batteries in ten years on our 12 year old camper. Luckily our MPPT solar controller and FWC Iota...

    Going to a Class B

I'm late to the party, but that's a nice ride with a long list of amenities. Looking forward to more WTW reports, Bill. ==edit== And Ted! Moving up to a Tiger! Very nice all around! They are certainly an interesting truck option. I've got an acquaintance in Nevada City who owns one and...

    Call of the Wild

Different tools for different purposes. Good on you to remember why we love the WTW backroads, and to travel the country in comfort too. We've been doing some soul searching after a ten day DV trip and are thinking our Sprinter concept might not be tough enough. We still love our FWC/Tundra...
