RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC falls off truck

I read somewhere that having a nut there actually puts more tension on the bolt, by preloading that little part of it between the nut and turnbuckle, and that could cause it to break there. I don't remember ever reading of that actually happening.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension advice for F250 6.7

With the low COG of the FWC, I bet you wouldn't miss the rear bar at all. I removed the rear from my 4runner and couldn't really tell the difference when cornering hard. My Dodge has only the front bar, and as stiff as it is I'm sure it will be fine with the camper without adding a rear bar.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension advice for F250 6.7

Another thing that's not really obvious that can make a huge difference in ride quality offroad is being able to disconnect swaybars. It makes a big difference in my 3rd gen 4runner in reducing the side-to-side neck-snapping flop when crossing a diagonal rut or driving in rocks, where tires are...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension advice for F250 6.7

That's what I was picturing. When the bags are really compressed they will rebound so fast that the shocks won't be able to control it. A correctly designed and set up bypass shock would be a solution, being position and velocity sensitive, unlike normal shocks just being velocity sensitive...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension advice for F250 6.7

I'm curious too about the ride with airbags when loaded. Do they have a really fast rebound once compressed, that overwhelms the shocks rebound damping? I've heard that airbags have a progressive spring rate vs leaf springs or single rate coil springs that have a linear rate. So the airbag...

How many watts does that thing draw? Does it pop put easily for when you are driving? I like not chopping a huge hole in the back of the camper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heavy Voltage Drop...normal?

Using battery voltage to determine SOC can't be easily done with a load on the battery, as the voltage will drop as you add more load. Then it will creep back up once the load is gone. You need to check voltage with the battery unloaded and after it has been sitting long enough for the voltage...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How much creaking and twisting is ok when jacking/loading?

I'm sure most people have not seen the inside of their FWC walls. I have all my interior wall panels off during my build, so here are a few pics of the construction in case anyone is curious. This is a 2012 Eagle shell. The rear wall has interior welds around the door opening framing, across...

Hmmm. A cute little (Chinese) swamp cooler they are calling an air conditioner, over and over. And no mention that it won't even work unless humidity is low.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Partial Pop Up

I didn't find any info about this online. I want to figure a way to lift the roof about 2/3 of the way open and have it be secure in that position. This is so I can work on the FWC in my garage. It seems like the lift panels will keep the roof located side to side but not front to back without...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Minimalist Build-Eagle Shell on 2006 Dodge 2500

Thanks. I used PicResize online, it's free. I just choose my photo, put in the max file size, and it does it's thing. Then you hit save to disk and it saves to wherever the pic came from but adds rsz to the original filename so it's easy to find. I'm trying to figure a place to put my 2 Dakota...

Ok, some of you said to go ahead with this report, so here goes nothing. I offer a blanket apology for mediocre to poor quality photos for the duration of the thread, so I won't have to apologize for each photo individually. I welcome suggestions and ideas. I'm guessing I will gain more from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Mounting Bed Damage

Trucks that I've had have had kind of U-shaped channel pieces running crosswise under the bed, that mount the bed to the frame. Usually a number of them from front to back. I could see where they are by spot welds in the bed floor. I've put the eye bolts through that channel piece. Then you are...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar set up

LiFePO4 battery. Expensive but cheaper in the long run. Much lighter, smaller, no maintenance, can be discharged to 80% or more DOD over and over. Doesn't hurt it to sit at low SOC. Mount in any position. Lasts many times as long as lead acid and you don't need nearly as many AH to do the same...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Is everyone tired of build threads? Eagle shell/06 Dodge 2500

I'm working on my kind of minimalist build. No real cabinets, good LED lighting, insulate as well as possible, 330W solar with 108AH lithium, eventual diesel heater tapped into truck fuel tank. Convertible indoor/outdoor kitchen setup, cooking outdoors whenever possible. I won't be able and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to insulate Eagle floorpack

I found this at Lowes, with free shipping. Good price, a little over R5, and if I measured accurately I can do the whole box with one layer and have enough to do 2 layers under the floor. https://www.lowes.com/pd/SilveRboard Wonder what the R-value would be with two layers at R5+ with two...

That Foamular looks like it would be good on the sides and step area. Is it a lot like styrofoam as far as durability? If I bump it with a chunk of firewood will it dent as easily as EPS? Thanks!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Our 2014 Fleet Shell Build Out

There are a lot of areas in my walls that are just air space. I do want to fill as much as I can with loose fiberglass. I think I can fit 1/8" bubble insulation behind the wall panels to break the thermal path and get somewhat of an air seal. I had an idea for the ceiling. Without taking apart...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Home for the Hawk 2500 Power Wagon

Say you are in a left-hand sweeper. The RH airbag is being compressed and the LH is being extended. The increased pressure from the RH bag goes across and adds pressure to the already unloaded LH bag. The LH suspension extends more, the truck leans more, more air goes from right to left, etc...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to insulate Eagle floorpack

That's pretty much what I was planning for the floor, using screws to hold up the sheets so they don't sit on the truck bed and get wet. I can't tell by your photo if you did, but if you leave a maybe 1/2" gap between the floor and the EPS, the layer of air adds even more R value. I'm going to...

Sorry to bring this back from the dead. I was going to PM Captm but thought someone else might be interested. You mentioned putting Reflectix between your wall panels and the frame/styrofoam. I have all my wall panels off and want to do something to insulate, but Reflectix looks to be .3125"...
