    Suggested options?

Just to second the ATC thing, nothing at all against FWC, they make great campers. But if you are going shell, and you want custom, i think they are a great option. Welcome to the cult indeed!

Do You Carry Heavy Duty Chain?

My one and only chain sits in the bottom of my flat bed trailer, its only purpose would be to tie the trailer off if needed in case i stupidly got it stuck and needed it secured while i setup. Otherwise its a big paperweight. I wheeled a jeep in the '80s, mudding in KY, never used a chain to...

Limiting Factor - Water, Battery, Freezer space, Toilet Paper?

Tough to answer, with the way we are set up now i think we could do three weeks pretty easy. We can carry thirty to forty gallons of water, two fridges and 65 gal of fuel, two full size propane tanks. Yeah, a while for sure. We spent 11 days on the same beach in Baja, mostly because of some...

    Truck Worries, Woes and Considerations

i have three super dutys. One is my old work/camper rig, mostly just a "valley car" in oregon. 2003 F250 with a 5.4. Has been great vehicle overall. Current work truck is an 2016 F350 dually plat. Got on a deal from a friend, great truck, plush but constantly worry about all of the headaches...

Go camping under stay at home order?

This has been really tough for most of us i suspect. Usually at this time of year i am in the SW/AZ/UT, and it is always one of the highlights of my travel year. This year, nope. Was about to head down anyway, but at the last minute decided to stick to the plan. One of my long time travel...

Death Valley Rangers Seek Help Identifying Vandal

Maybe if these idiots ever saw real consequences, the "artist" that painted faces in National Parks a few years back got off way too easy. the morons that walked across grand prismatic in Yellowstone, not much either. I see stupid tourist crap every time i'm in a Nat. Park. Nothing happens to...

ATC Ocelot or FWC Hawk owners in Missoula, Montana?

MTramble, Sorry for late response. Notifications must be off. I have a Flatbed version ATC, realize it is not what you were seeking, but could give you a few ideas I suppose. w

much love for Torklift StableLoads? / Upper, lower or BOTH?

Hi, I have a set on an 03 F250 that had our old camper on it, thought they worked great. Helped with sway and no need for airbags. Current setup,2016 F350 diesel, flatbed, camper on 99% of the time. Have added custom progressive leaf packs and still have the upper stable loads on this one as...

    chlorine tablets

I have used them in the past, but I crush the tablet and make a very light mix in a bottle first, then pour that in. Really hate the smell/taste of chlorine. When we went last year, I carried extra cans of water to try to avoid this situation. Good luck, safe travels.

trying to pick the ideal truck to match a FWC

What sage said, x2. You will never regret the granby/or similar sized ATC. And you will not regret going with a full sized truck. There have been less than 5 times that I have had to turn around in my superduty(s) with a camper that a small truck would have fit. A lot depends on your choice of...

    Wave 3 Heater

To echo what Mr. Ski said, We have both, the wave is used mostly for when the weather forces us inside for a lengthy period. We aim it at where we happen to be inside. I have used it at night a few times, much like the buddy heater. I just increase the amount of ventilation, and use a usb...

    back bumper

Realize this topic is old, but will chime in here. The Wilco is an option, I have one and would not personally go that route for a rear door camper. Opening and closing because of the rear door. I also have had huge problems with my wilco that for now I won't discuss in an open forum. A good...

    Decisions, Decisions

TD, Congrats on the new camper. The build is a great part of the fun with these things! I had mine done with the thought of being somewhere in between the full build out crowd and the shell gang. Also, mine is a flatbed model, mostly because I am a big fan of flatbeds on trucks. One thing I...

    Mojave Road

Thanks guys, great info. Slow is always a bit subjective, but 5mph or so is a good starting point. Also, yes i worry about air intake height as well. A fully watertight raised air intake for a superduty isn't something i have found in the past. Generally with water, i turn around if it goes...

WS, Agreed, a paddle trip would be great. Just spoke with Mark at Long Haul, going to stop in on him on my way to KY/NC this spring. If i like what i see i am going to order one. Our Christmas Present

Wandering Sage, Have had similar issues with our folbot as well. Frustrating to say the least, love the idea but not the setup. Looked at feathercraft for a long time before they closed shop. Just didn't have the funds back then, now have two what I consider near perfect for us hardshells, an...

    Mojave Road

Having read this and many other threads about this, have a question or two. Any idea what average speed for a safe crossing would be, I understand the bow wake idea, just looking for a little more info. The deepest crossing for us so far has been just below the pinch weld below the door. Is...

    Our Christmas Present

Wow, Just when I thought I was over my desire to buy any more kayaks. Have been yakking since 93 and have a nice armada going in the garage, but will definitely be looking at this company. We purchased a gently used folbot about 3 years ago, just for Baja, and while we like it, would like an...
