    The Superior National Forest

Thanks for asking! The boats are a skin-on frame type construction. The canoe frames are made of ash ribs and pine stringers with cherry used for decks, gunwales and thwarts. The kayak is a fuselage type construction with frames of marine plywood and chines of pine. The coaming is cherry. The...

The Big Summer Adventure - August 2019

Yes, a fine summer trip. Great photos and commentary- I always get a chuckle or two out of your writing and it's fun to see the wildlife you encounter. Especially enjoyed the sheep (and goat) photos. Your Yosemite report brought back fond memories of a back-packing trip with my son back in...

Another trip back and forth across the plains

I've read that the moose are really thriving on the west side of RMNP. The willow thickets and meadows along the Colorado River are great habitat for them. We saw quite a few along there on two trips this summer. Lots of elk too.

    It's Fall Here

We've been having summer weather here lately- 80s and high humidity. But I am not complaining. Fall (and winter) will be here soon enough. The trees know- they are starting their seasonal color show in bits and pieces.

Tire pressure: BFG K02 ‘18 Tacoma w/ Fleet flatbed camper

The new door sticker does not change the vehicle weight rating. It only changes the recommended tire pressures for LT tires.

Buckland, yes, we love the lightweight boats. Not sure what the Clam weighs, maybe 30 pounds? The real advantage is how easy it goes up and comes down- literally less than a minute each way. Thanks for your comments! Smlobx, Thanks for your comments! Yes, the Clam is a big package. It does ride...

Smoke, you are welcome. Thanks for your comment! Thanks for the tip- I'm going to try that stuff out. We had a bad experience with pack rats in California 5 years ago- $1500 repair to wiring and firewall. This is the first time I've had mice issues. Luckly, little damage this time. Thanks for...

Wee Lassie is about 22 pounds. The Rob Roy is about 25 pounds. They are awesome boats. Thanks for your comments! Thanks. Yes it's a great part of the world. Thanks Sage. Yeah, great saw. I think I've seen pics of your boat on here- very nice. The grand kids will love it.

    Personal-size Screen House?

Vic, do you have just the 3 wind panels or do you have more? I have been considering buying another set of wind panels to fully enclose the Clam but would need to modify one for the door.

    Personal-size Screen House?

This year it depends quite a bit on the location. Some areas have had a lot of rain and that means more mosquitos. They were very bad at one camp off the Gunflint Trail this past week. The Clam was a lifesaver. A couple of weeks ago we were able to sit out for a campfire with no bugs over by...

    Personal-size Screen House?

Speaking of Minnesota, we would have been miserable this past week without our new Clam screen house due to the mosquitos. Sounds like an ad for the Clam but we really like it. Easy to put up and take down. We have the larger version which covers the large picnic tables found in the USFS...

    Pollinators

WjColdWater, thanks for your post. Many people don't realize that their landscapes, while beautiful, if planted without native plants are essentially deserts for local insects, birds and wildlife. We did the conversion to native plants about 10 years ago. Now the yard is beautiful and...

What size bit for bolt on Toyota Tacoma steel bed bar?

Ha, I just realized you are talking about the camper mounting bars in the bed. The T55 size bit was the clue I missed. You will probably need an impact driver to get those out. I was talking about the cargo tie downs around the top of the bed. So, never mind. :)

What size bit for bolt on Toyota Tacoma steel bed bar?

I use a power screwdriver to remove them. Make sure the torx bit is the right size. The wrong size can strip the bolt head and then you have a mess (don't ask how I know, haha). But don't use it to put them back in- start them by hand. There is no nut- some kind of insert in the bed sheet metal...
