RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

Checked voltage at camper to truck plug. Power at the plug from camper is 13.xx depending on solar charge at the moment. Seems as though power is flowing through separator back to the truck. I assume this would indicate separator is not working.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

I heard back from Jay Roper at FWC. He said it should not get hot. Right now the truck is disconnected from the camper. Separator still hot. I can touch it but leaving my finger on it for a few seconds creates discomfort. I think my next step is to disconnect separator from camper batteries...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

Story continues. Truck parked connected to camper. Solar charging and separator hot. Volt meter in truck battery shows 14v, same as camper. Disconnect camper from truck and truck voltage drops. Seems that the separator is allowing solar charging to the truck battery which most likely is also...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

I think I know why the separator was hot when the truck wasn’t running. Interested in what others think. I had the trickle charger on the truck batteries while the camper was connected. I think this pushed the truck batteries up in voltage to trigger the separator. I understand they get...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

Today the separator is not even warm. I reconnected the camper and truck. The truck batteries were 12.7v and the camper batteries are charging on solar in the 13’s. I’ll check again later. It looks like the way FWC connects these separators is through a thermal(?) block similar to the one in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

Thanks. I think that replacing is a good idea. I disconnected the camper from the truck and the 1314A was still hot. My front dinette also has the same heat shield set up. I will look into the Blue Sea

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

Thanks. I found that thread earlier and then couldn’t find again. I think it mentioned the1314A was the recall replacement. Mine is in a 2015 Grandby. I need to look into the isolators. Are they fairly straightforward to replace with? Thanks again.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sure power 1314A gets hot

My truck has been parked and not run for days. Camper plugged into truck. I have 160w solar wired through controller to camper batteries. Two questions: 1. The separator is hot to the touch. Should it be? 2. It seems my truck is receiving a charge from the solar on the camper. I thought the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front camper window modification

Mine leaked. Replaced with a solid window. I think a better design would be no window. Warmer in cold weather and especially with a front dinette you can’t see anything out of anyway. My 2 cents.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Kayak: Anyone carrying one vertically off the rear?

I just got a Malone trailer. I think I’ll use my boat more (double) not needing to lift it to the roof. Anyone with the trailer take it on long trips 2,000 mile+?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Diagram of proposed 2nd panel, controller and battery setup

On a FWC aren’t the roof and rear wall solar plugins tied together inside the camper? If so then the wires labeled solar, only two a pos and neg, would go into one controller?

When these are used in the main truck compartment are you plugging it into the twelve volt plug that is what used to be the cigarette lighter socket? Do you leave it plugged in even when you are not driving, say overnight and it doesn’t bring your starter battery too far down? Thanks

How much do these larger fuel tanks cost? I have ‘17 Ram 2500 diesel. Is modification required to upsize the tank? The range with 60 gallons would be amazing.

Does anyone use a cover for their camper while it is on the truck? I think a Class B size cover would fit pretty well. I have a Ram 2500 with a Grandby. Any advice or experience welcomed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Parking light randomly came on.

No. The camper is not on right now. The light was on the truck. The corrosion was on the bed plug for the camper to truck connection.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Parking light randomly came on.

The rear driver side parking light came on randomly. I checked the camper plug in the bed and saw some green corrosion. Cleaned it up and the light went off. A few days earlier I sprayed some electrical anti-corrosion spray on the plug. It was wasn’t the full on taillight, just the smaller side...
