RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron Smartshunt reading

I recently installed the Bluetooth 500a Smartshunt and a 12v fridge. I appreciate seeing the energy consumption and am very happier with the efficiency of the fridge. Today my observation on the History screen the max voltage reading today was 16.59v. I checked on the trend graph to see when...

For those using a portable panel, what guage wire do you use for the extension? I see gauges ranging from 10-16. I am inclined to use 10. What are your experiences? Thanks

And by the way…thanks, you gave me quite a bit of advice awhile ago when I first thought about getting a shunt. Took me some time but now I have one wired up and am waiting for my fridge which should be here next week.

I reset my charged voltage to match the absorption voltage on my controller and also changed the battery capacity to full capacity. My camper is currently sitting in the driveway with nothing running and in the evening the shunt shows battery fully charged, no power, no current, no consumed...

Thanks. I don’t have the Overland controller. I have an old Morningstar Sunsaver that isn’t a MPPT. Would it benefit me to reset the app to the settings you propose? Thanks.

It’s a good thing the Bluetooth doesn’t have a long range or I would be staring at the app[emoji6]. I need to look up the manual as mine only came with a quick start instruction sheet, nothing about the app.

Thanks. I did set the battery but at the full capacity. I will go back in and set it at 75amp hours. The batteries were fully charged when I set it up. Thanks for taking the time to look over my info. I am going to order my fridge now. Same size as yours, the CR130.

After another ten minutes with everything off. The sun is not high in the sky. I am on the coast in Northern California. At the moment I read approximately 16 volts from the 160w panel.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Finally installed Victron Smartshunt

I finally got around to ordering and installing a Victron smartshunt. I will be putting in a a 12v fridge so thought watching energy usage would be important. I have 160w panel, 2-Group 24 AGM batteries of 75 amp hours each so 150 amp hour total. But as I understand only 75 usable to keep the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Using tow/haul mode with lighter campers

I use tow/haul on steeper hills so the transmission doesn’t keep looking. On steep downhills I also use it in conjunction with the exhaust brake. I have a Ram with the Grandby.

That makes sense. You could even hook your portable up straight to a battery standing alone. Thanks for the clarification.

My 2015 was pre wired, no controller. Two wires were coiled and marked solar. I hooked up my controller using these wires. I have a rooftop panel. When I put a multimeter on the rear SAE plug I get the same voltage reading coming off the roof top panel. I am assuming that the rear wall socket is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable 100w Solar Panel

Thanks. I assume you have a charge controller for your 130w panel. I believe the solar connection on the roof and on my rear wall are spliced together and they both utilize the charge controller I use for rooftop solar. Won’t that controller work for the portable as well? I think I have read...

Does anyone have experience with the Harbor Freight Portable 100 watt suitcase panels? Good? Bad? I have a panel on my roof and am looking to supplement when I need to place a panel away from camper in a shady spot. I assume I just plug into the back wall outlet? After checking polarity of...
