Racetrack Via Hunter Mtn Rd, Death Valley

Hunter Mountain to Hidden Valley is most likely snowed in as it usually is this time of year. You could always take Saline Valley Road to Lippincott Road to The Racetrack. Saline south pass is pretty bad lately. More info here: http://forum.salinepreservation.org/post/South-Pass-100712-6040807

    2014 Toyota Tundra

There have already been threads about which truck manufacturers are best and gas vs diesel so no need to go there. I prefer to stick with Toyota, thanks. I just wish they would put in a larger tank. Or a diesel would be nice as well. A diesel and a bigger tank would be amazing!

    2014 Toyota Tundra

The key improvement I'm watching for is a larger gas tank. Our 2011 gets about 13 mpg with the camper. With a 26 gallon tank, that is just over 300 miles for a range. Under the truck looks like there is a lot of room to put a larger tank. It bugs me this hasn't been done. Oh well. Ted, I...

Death Valley in March with my Dad

Very warm memories in these posts. It was my parents, when I was 4 years old, that got me hooked on Death Valley. Now 50+ years later, I have explored every dirt road and hiked every trail. At my parents of 70 years old, I finally dragged my parents for a long Baja trip. They are 86 years old...

Heating Duct from Truck to Camper

If I'm reading this correctly, Rodney wants to keep the camper warm as he drives the truck. Seems the simplest thing to do is install a 12 volt heater of which there are all sorts...

Pinacates, here's a place may be new to others

It's been twenty years since I was last at Pinacates in Mexico. Though just south of the border, it is very remote and wonderful to explore. Just looking at the link below makes me feel like I need to return soon: Be sure to look at the pictures...

    2014 Toyota Tundra

I can see from the picture right now, it is still the mini diff with non floating rear axles. Even if the payload is claimed to be increased, you're still loading up a truck without a full floating rear axle....ouch...

    Spring in Titus Canyon

Titus Canyon is very scenic. It's an easy road for 2wd. Unless there is something special at furnace creek Ranch, you might consider Mesquite Flats camp. It is quieter and less developed. It is just north of where you exit Titus Canyon. If you are heading out of DV towards the south, I strongly...

    Stupid question: Airing down tires

Hi HiCap, Congrats on the Volt. Once you drive electric, there is no going back! I test drove a Nissan Leaf 2 days ago. Damn! That is a really nice car. Roomy, substantial and fast. I rarely drive more than 30 miles a day around town, let alone the 80 miles to 100 miles the Leaf goes. Pretty...

@bsharp: The whales are still there until mid April. The density is low but the babies more gregarious. @ramblinman: Anytime but summer is best. Summer is nice along the Pacific. I like the fall because the waters in the Sea of Cortez are still very warm. Spring is great for whales and wild...

Nice quality USA made tire pressure gauges

Wish that I could find a US made version of this: http://www.harborfreight.com/pistol-grip-tire-inflator-with-gauge-68270.html I have one that I've modified as things fail. It now has a quality, glycerin filled gauge screwed into it courtesy of a friend who works in instrumentation and a Camel...

3 (not very smart) ladies take a trip to Saline Valley

3 winters ago, we were coming out of Saline on the South Pass and right at the intersection with Hunter Mountain road (7,000 feet elevation, 20 degrees cold), We came across two male Chinese tourists flagging my son and me down. They had come in the night before in a rental suv following their...

Nice quality USA made tire pressure gauges

I have been for years lamenting the loss of USA assembled tire pressure gauges. And then when my old Accu-Gauge went bad and I needed one that goes to 85 pounds, I searched all the local stores only to find this stupid little battery powered gauge of poor quality. Oh yeah, stupid me, just...

    Baja Newbie

Hi, looking for directions to the immigration office in Mexicali. Is there good parking? We will be rolling through there in April and I know how hectic it can be trying to read signs in Spanish in a big city. And confirming if you have exact change for the FMM you dont have to go to the bank...
