Update On Events In Death Valley

I do not wish to diminish the seriousness or sadness of this thread but to build on Mrs.Ted''s experience, we were camped on the east side many years ago and Mrs. Link trundled off into the bushes to relieve herself. Seconds later, in the full squat position she was startled by the roaring...

    Swollen lug nuts….

I ran into this problem a few months ago. Luckily, it was discovered during a normal tire rotation and not in an emergency situation. My local tire guy said that it is becoming a real problem. As Alvis noted above, don't buy replacement Ford lug nuts , , , they cost more and the problem will...

British Columbia Parks and Trails question

I agree with Frank, Miracle Beach is nice, however the last time we stopped there it was crowded with large RVs and we decided not to stay there.

    time on the Dempster.

We drove the Dempster to Inuvik in 2010 before the summer road to TUK was built, and again in 2019 when you could go all the way to TUK. I agree with Wango, five to seven days will allow you to explore a bit more. We missed hiking in Tombstone National Park, visiting the town of Tsiigehtchic...

Death Valley National Park - February 2022

Thanks for another fascinating trip report, Ski. Your experience with the fellow passing you without stopping no longer surprises me. The internet has opened formerly remote places to the masses but unfortunately, that same internet does little to school these new visitors in backcountry or...

who has made move from first gen Tundra to Tacoma?

Wicked! - How about if I PM you tomorrow so as to not flirt with the Off Topic line? :) I do have one question though, from what i can make out in your avatar, it looks like you have a flat bed. Is that correct?

who has made move from first gen Tundra to Tacoma?

Campito – We went the other way, Tacoma to a Ford F150 but you might find the following stats helpful in your decision making process: 2nd generation Tacoma with ATC Bobcat (similar to a Fleet): Alaska, 2010 – Total miles = 8,912, MPG Avg. = 16.23 Alaska, 2014 – Total...

how do you folks 'claim' a campsite' while you are off exploring during day

Many here have noted the abundance of new campers in recent years due to what I believe is a combination of "cabin fever" caused by the pandemic, the "overlanding movement," the "nomad movement," the "Snap Chat/Instagram phenomenon," and the almost unlimited mapping/trip planning capabilities...

High Desert suggestions for summer camping

Toroweap is definitely worth the effort but as TGK suspected, permits are required for camping.. There are 10 sites and the permits can be obtained online or at Pipe Spring NM on Hwy 389. No permit . . . . lots of dispersed camping and cooler temps on Mount Trumbull to the northeast...

A Year of Service and Conservation of American Lands

Jim - i am surprised that no one has yet responded to this post, perhaps this is not the best venue for a subject like this. That being said, I, like you, I am a big advocate of the "year of service" idea. Aside from all of the benefits that the country would receive, i believe such a program...
