    Meadow Lake Camp Rally

Sorry we were unable to attend . . . . looks like it was a memorable event. Also, thanks to those who did the organizing and submitted the photos in this report. As Frank said above, it is neat to put faces to the names that we've become familiar with on this forum through the years - Richard

Camping Rally at Meadow Lake October 10-12.

Ted and Meadow Lake group - Something in the work realm came up yesterday that will preclude us from joining you this weekend. I was very much looking forward to this trip. Thanks to Ted and the others who organized it, and we will jealously look forward to the reports and photos next week...

Using a camper off truck while at camp?

Another consideration regarding the "base camp" concept is that you must bring your camper jacks along on each trip. You won't find many folks on this forum who travel with jacks attached . . . . extra weight and easy to snag in an off road situation.

    Fresh Water Drain Leaking

The fresh water valve problem was more than a minor irritation for me. Earlier this summer some of the diluted bleach solution (part of the purification process) leaked and actually etched lines in my then brand new truck. As you might guess, this did not make me happy. I put a plug in it at...

    Folk Music

If you enter Tom Rush, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Ian and Sylvia, etc. into Pandora Radio you will get a steady diet of all of your favorite folk singers. They do a great job - Richard

    North to Alaska

joez3 - I agree with Frank's logic regarding the ferry, but here is another option that has worked well for us in the past - drive the stretch between the border and Prince Rupert on the Yellowhead Hwy. and the Frazer River Canyon . . . . it is, for the most part, a beautiful trip and saves $...

Add a Fairing for MPG Boost?

Thanks again, everyone - I just bought a Yakima 44" fairing and towers from REI and am installing it today. Leaving tomorrow for a long trip up north. Will report back to this thread upon our return. - Richard PS: As per everyone's recommendation, I plan to drive slower on this trip to boost MPG

    Our Denali trip 2011

I love the color of the foliage at the time you visited . . . . nice photos! Our experience regarding camper height is the same as yours; BC Ferries seem to be a bit more finicky than Alaska Marine Hwy. One time, we were in line at an Alaska Marine terminal next to a guy with a big Lance...

    Storm Flap Struts

Thanks to all who responded. You provided three different approaches, each with it's own merits. Now it's time for me to pick the one best suited to our needs, head to Lowes/Home Depot for materials, and make some struts in time for our trip. What a great resource this site is. Thanks again...

    Storm Flap Struts

I know there is a thread on this, but am having no luck finding it. Ted, for one, made struts from PVC pipe to hold the storm flaps out away from the camper so that you can have the windows open when it is raining in camp. We are leaving Friday on an AK trip and I want to try and make some of...

    Boy Do I feel Better

    Vancouver Island

Ramblin - Glad you are having a good trip. Here is something that might appeal to you: After you leave Strathconia, take the paved road to Gold River, then south to the end of the road where you can take a day trip on the Uchuck III, a ferry that brings supplies to small outposts in the Nootka...

    Vancouver Island

Ramblin - Hope you are enjoying your trip. We too like the north end of the Island. If logging roads are OK with you, there are many great areas with few people. Pick up a map from Western Forest Products (logging company). They support numerous campgrounds which we have always found to be...

Add a Fairing for MPG Boost?

Thanks for your responses. Idahoron, I have a Tacoma but as you can see from billharr and lighthawk, they are available for Tundas as well. We have a long trip coming up and I am hoping to increase overall MPG by driving more slowly and incorporating a few other fuel saving mods. If I move...

Add a Fairing for MPG Boost?

I know that many WTW'ers have added a fairing to deflect wind and increase fuel economy. Is anyone using a Yakima fairing? If so, have you seen an MPG increase? If you have seen an increase, which fairing width are you using? I am thinking about adding one. I am not expecting miracles, but...

Going to Flagstaff I-40 from Ventura

X2 on Mid Hills. Also, haven't been there in many years but Caruthers Canyon used to be a very special place before the Mojave Preserve was the Mojave Preserve. It had a great camp area near the end of the canyon that was built and used by local ranchers. Perhaps others here can comment on...

    2nd Spare Tire
