As usual, great TR with beautiful photos and a wonderful narrative. I've yet to use my camper as a base camp for a backpacking trip, so you've got me thinking... Looking forward to the rest of the story.

A little free (dispersed) site near Woods Lake in Hope Valley. Fires weren't allowed, but I wouldn't have used it anyway. So nice to get away from the campgrounds...

Thanks for all of the replies. Also, thanks Alley-Kat for posting your link. I've wondered about doing something like that or using aluminum guide tracks, but I'd probably spend $150 on materials for a project that may or may not work for my needs. If I buy one, I'll post my results to share...

I'm considering getting one of these ARB Awnings and mounting it to the side of my Bobcat. The awning is 78" wide and extends to 98," so that should provide ample shade. These are under $300.00 and a little more doable than an expensive Fiamma. I called ATC today and they told me how to go...

Are you getting it today or ordering it today? I love mine. My only advice is the simpler the better.

I enjoyed reading your very good Trip Report. Have you ever used a Tenkara rod while on the smaller rivers? I love them for their light weight and simplicity.

Look at the ATC Bobcat as well, you'll get an excellent camper and save a couple of grand in the process.

I guess I'll have to wait for Part II to find out if you all hit the Monitor Valley (Potts) Hot Spring? It's one of my favorite soaking spots and I always take a dip when I'm close to it.
