Walla Walla July 19th field conditions ?

I have no local knowledge but following are some links. You will see Walla Walla has a relatively low number of Covid19 cases. But it is next to the Tri-Cities and close to Yakima - both of which are having a high rise in cases. Washington state infections per day are now higher than they...

Why *shouldn't* we remove the folding metal cover of the three burner stove?

I've thought about removing my cover and adding some sort of easy clean surface on the wall. But I wondered if it helped keep the burners in place while driving. Has anybody had problems with the burners not staying in place without the cover?

    Volunteering in National Parks?

I haven’t volunteered at a National Park, but I’ve volunteered at three state parks. I love it and each time I think I’ve gotten more out of the experience than the park has gotten out of me. I've learned a lot about the park, people, and community. I tend to live a pretty isolated life with...

    How do you plan trips?

Ah, trip planning. I think there is no better way to spend a winter evening. In general, I surf the internet looking for things to see, trails to hike, interesting rocks, good bakeries, the best camping spots, etc. All of this I tag on a map. After a time when the map is full of tags, I then...

Advice Requested: Spring 2020 Prowling South West

In 2014 I had snow mid May at Capital Reef with snow sticking to the ground. Nothing dramatic but it delayed me a day, not wanting to drive on Hwy 12 until I was sure there was no snow on the road. I suggest you plan for any weather and be flexible. Ah.. Utah is wonderful.

Advice Requested: Spring 2020 Prowling South West

Bears Ears is good. Think about camping at Mule Point. Incredible views of Monument Valley. You most likely won't be the only one there but the views are great. I also give two thumbs up to the Swell. See a link below for lots of information. Lots of area with no people unless you are...

    Camera for a newbie

A couple of years ago I decided to get a real camera. The last camera I owned was a film camera and I lost it about 30 years ago. I decided to get a Sony RX100-II. A pocket camera that shots RAW. No interchangable lenses. Simple right? Wrong. I was totally unprepared for the steep learning...

    Southeast Oregon in October

After stopping at Fields for a peppermint milkshake I reach the Page Spring campground about 2:30 today (Monday). To my surprise the campground was almost full. I chatted with the camp host and he said the campground has been full or almost full all September. But know, if it is full, talk to...

    Out Wandering

I'm currently out wandering and will be posting to my blog now and then. I'll edit this post when I'm home sometime in November letting everyone know the blogging is done for this trip. Here is a post on heading south from Seattle.

    Southeast Oregon in October

And there is the Riddle Brother's Ranch and Diamond Crater. I'm heading to the Steens in a week or so. In the past the food at Frenchglen had a reputation for excellency. I couldn't get a reservation for dinner when I was there in 2013. Has anyone heard how the food is now? Thanks...

A great idea, but I'm spending October at John Day, Oregon giving tours at Kam Wah Chung which limits when I can meet everyone. Don't plan around me but if it is late September or early November I might be able to make it.

    Montana wildflowers

I was shamefully ignorant of Vipond Park last year. I just saw a road on the map that would connect the Quartz Hill mining area with the charcoal kilns. I was surprised to find the meadow. Now I'm an ambassador for the area, telling all I know what a great place it is. And not overwhelmed...

    Montana wildflowers

I made a quick trip to Montana to see the wildflowers. The trip was planned before I made the decision to retire this spring, hence a quick short trip was what I thought I needed. I decided to stay at forest service cabins and not pull the trailer. Yes, a pop-up camper would have been nice...

Pondering. Work to take camper on/off

Thanks everyone. I have a level spot to store it on, the garage apron. One side of my garage is full of tools and will never be used to park a vehicle inside. Hum, I'll keep pondering. It seems kind of decadent to me to have both a travel trailer and a camper. But if I could find a used...

Pondering. Work to take camper on/off

I love my trailer that I can take to a place to camp and explore during the off season. But now that I'm retired, it means that I may want to take road trips which are more suitable to a camper or go camping during the summer when shelter isn't as important. It has gotten me to ponder getting...

    Small Camping Tables

I have an adjustable height table. Unfortunately it gets sand in the legs and it makes adjusting the height very difficult. I have the little Camco table (nick named the origami table) and I love it.
