    Olympian wave3 above 9k'

Well, you might take a look at Plat Cat. This has a thermostat control, and vents the exhaust products OUTSIDE. But it's not particularly cheap, and I don't know if it has the same low-oxygen high altitude problem as the other's or not. It looks like they are built in small runs, so maybe one...

    OK I goofed :(

Is this your only transportation? I wouldn't want to drive it on the highway in this condition, and I would definitely prefer to talk to FWC before I did something that made the situation even worse.

    Olympian wave3 above 9k'

My understanding is that it's the low-oxygen safety cut-off that is the problem. High altitudes fool it into thinking there's not enough oxygen, so it shuts the heater down. I don't know of any such heater that is built without one.

I am starting to really dislike my camper solar

Are you full-timing? Do you have a conventional RV propane furnace for heat? Do you expect to be plugged in or boondocking in the winter? RV furnaces use a LOT of 12 volt power to run overnight, so much so that they've been known to drain a single house battery overnight. Which leads to the...

    spare key

I don't see that as a thread hijack, it's certainly related to what we are talking about. I have a dog tag on my key ring. It reads: REWARD IF FOUND MY NAME MY CELL PHONE # MY EMAIL @MY INTERNET PROVIDER (dog tags can only take 16 characters per line which is why my email takes two lines.)...

    spare key

I always carry a spare key in my wallet. The new chipped keys don't fit there well, so I had an unchipped key cut. It can't start the truck, but it will unlock the doors. I have a chipped key in a magnetic container, but it's hidden in such a way that you can't get it unless you unlock the door.

I am starting to really dislike my camper solar

If anybody wants to REALLY get into understanding solar and charging voltages and such, I recommend Handy Bob's blog posts on the subject. https://handybobsolar.wordpress.com/ Just be prepared to enjoy the ranting . . . :D

I am starting to really dislike my camper solar

When you get to your friend in flagstaff, in addition to having him help with the solar, ask him to look at the setup that lets your alternator charge the house batteries. Specifically you want to see what kind of isolator you have. A solenoid would be good. There are also some types that use...

Help with two 12 volt batteries (parallel)?

Ordinary battery acid is actually 1/3 concentrated sulfuric acid diluted with 2/3 distilled water. Only the water is lost through evaporation etc. which is why you only add distilled water to batteries. If your cells were dry, that means the liquid in the bottom of the cells was CONCENTRATED...

    Removing camper to dry out

It's funny. I asked a similar question in the truck camper sub-forum of a Ford Truck forum, and everybody acted like I was talking Klingon. "A puddle of water in the bed? What are you talking about?"

    Border crossing paperwork

I'm sure everyone else here is right, and you really have nothing to worry about. But a thought did occur to me . . . Here in the US, people often stop at American customs to register such items as camera gear and laptops and such. This proves that you had it when you left the US and you...

    working on making Tee Shirts

I'd be interested, but I take a size 3X Tall, and most places that do that kind of thing don't offer those kind of sizes. Still, let me know if they can accommodate me.

    Tool Kit Ideas

+1 on this! For many years, I HAD to go to work regardless of snow or ice on the roads. I had four studded snow tires, mounted and balanced on junkyard rims, and I changed them out myself every October and March. Always used anti-seize on the studs. Used the same 4-way lug wrench I carried...

    Multimeter?

Pretty much any meter will let you measure ac and dc voltage, and check continuity. The regular meters will usually limit you to no more than 10 amps of current, and you need to interrupt the circuit and put the meter in line to get even that. The clamp on type will let you measure much higher...

    Mosquito Repellent

I need a repellent that is not only effective against mosquitoes, but it's got to work against ticks, also. Lyme disease is prevalent here, and now a new, invasive species of tick from East Asia is showing up also. 100% deet is what they recommend around here.

I just noticed that no one - myself included - mentioned a flashlight. In addition to the Maglight in my truck and the Surefire in my pocket, I also have one of those LED headlamps that light up wherever you are looking while leaving BOTH hands free to hold things and use tools. Beats the hell...

Highest current flow you have seen?

Well, I'll make one observation. People tend to think of batteries as being analogous to fuel tanks for electricity. If you have a ten gallon fuel tank, and use five gallons from it, if you put five gallons back in, it's back to full. Batteries are actually chemically powered generators...
