    Charging from truck

i would suspect that the optima is tired. it is drawing too much current and is not charging properly. swap the two batteries and re run the test.

    Charging from truck

when the isolator connects the load to the truck charging system the alternator's regulator will attempt to maintain voltage levels by providing current. you already know this. if the load is great enough both the charging system and the truck battery will attempt to provide current as long as...

5 Watt Solar Trickle Charger - effective?

it ought to work...that is, to keep your battery topped off. do you have any electronics that are "always on" ? i.e. CO or propane detectors? remote control fan? these items consume a small bit of power. if you do have them the solar cell must be able to exceed their consumption.

what has the max charge current been? Specifically, the charge current from truck to camper ... after the camper battery has been run down. i.e. with the camper battery @ low charge, and during the first few minutes after the truck alternator is given the load by the battery isolator thats...

First time intro & Electrical Problem

i suppose what would be good is a definitive listing of the true power consumption of the various items, furnace, lights, etc. ....and done with one of these quality measuring devices. i use mine for my amateur radio stuff....i run on batteries a lot. i was thinking that i would wire a...

Funky readings from the monitor panel

i knew it...since without the iq4 the iota converter puts out 13.5v....i agree that its a good thing......but since i have a solar unit i let that take care of the battery. 14v would be too high for a sustained period of time.

    "Manual" Battery Isolator

Why do you say it is a good to charge a towable but not a camper? i think that you can connect anything you want but i also believe that anything connected should provide a mechanism to isolate itself from the vehicle and not provide a discharge path. unless the vehicle charging system is...

    Dry Camping in Northern California

i would say that the snow is going to limit your options.....a lot as most national forests could be difficult to traverse at higher elevations. head up to the redwood coast....the further north you go the less people you will see. we have stayed in some of the state parks this time of year and...

    wiring diagram available?

i was thinking about installling a power consumption monitoring device and was curious about a specific detail of the wiring. the camper battery has two cables connected. i would assume that one cable goes directly to the battery isolator. the other would go directly to the 12v distribution...
