Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

Thanks! I hadn't seen anything like that. I was looking at much more expensive 12v-12v chargers. I'm guessing I'd need an MPPT controller then? Also, have you found a good way to cut off charging at low temperatures?

1st gen Tundra tell me about your shocks and suspension.

That's a good deal! Some advantages to living in the city. I've been considering the fancy coilovers, but the anecdotes I've gathered so far indicate they generally need a rebuild because they leak, and this usually happens sooner than it does for non rebuildable twin tube shocks. The cheap...

1st gen Tundra tell me about your shocks and suspension.

How often did they fail? You need to rebuild Kings every 30k miles or so, which is going to cost a couple hundred $ plus removal, shipping, and installation.

Rando wrote: "As for alternator charging, it all depends on your alternator voltage. In my case, my alternator is ECU controlled and quickly drops down to ~13.5V, when combined with my skinnier wires to the battery doesn't provide much charging current. If your alternator stays up at 13.9 -...

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

Thank you both for the info! I could not find any other comments regarding low charge rates being particularly bad for these batteries, so I've decided not to worry about it. I'm leaning towards hooking it up to the alternator. The alternator might not fully charge it, but it should add quite a...

Thanks for the info! What is your solar setup and how many days (charge cycles) approximately?

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

I ran across some discussion of low charge rates not being good for LiFEPO4. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/beginners/how-charging-lithium-(lifepo4)-batteries-works-in-the-face-of-changing-current/ "Lithium based rechargeable batteries can be damaged (over time) by slow charging currents. This...

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

This is probably a dumb question, but would it be ok to remove the paper wrapper before gluing the cells together? It looks like there is a plastic insulation ring on the + end. And the rest of the casing is -, correct?

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

I believe that limited charging at below freezing temperatures is the case. "Li ion can be fast charged from 5°C to 45°C (41 to 113°F). Below 5°C, the charge current should be reduced, and no charging is permitted at freezing temperatures because of the reduced diffusion rates on the anode...

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

Yes, I looked at BMS options and the high power ones are expensive! Plus I'd need a voltage step up on the alternator for it to charge lithium. Thinking it makes the most sense to have them totally separate and just use solar for the house battery. I've been reading up on connecting the cells...

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

Simplicity and weight savings. Being able to use the alternator for house battery charging without isolation, and getting rid of a starting battery that I don't really need. AGM or FLA deep cycle batteries will easily start a vehicle if they are big enough, and they only need to be a little...

Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

Hi, rando or anyone else who knows, if I build a 12v 100+ah pack would it be able to easily start my truck? I'd like to ditch my starter battery and just use the "house" battery. I was originally planning on AGM which I know will work.

Best place to buy D or E load range tires

If anyone is looking for tires, Discount Tire Direct is running a $100 off $400 sale on their ebay store only. It's ending pretty soon. There is only one discount allowed per ebay/paypal address, but you can get a wife or friend to help split the order. Lots of additional manufacturer rebates...

Moved my Hawk from F150 to Tundra

I have heard that poly bushings on the lower shackle pivot are helpful. And leaves are a good way to go if your camper will be on the truck most of the time. Not sure if I'd want a rear swaybar. Definitely better on road, but not so good off. I'll probably end up getting stiffer shocks and...

    Paria Canyon Roads

I can't help you... haven't been to Vermillion Cliffs, but it looks awesome! N AZ and S UT is such a beautiful area. I worked at Bryce a couple seasons, and have been all around there. So many interesting places to explore and not overrun. Good luck!

    Best Tires For 1995 F350 & 1996 Squire 8000?

I was leaning that way also, but ended up going with Hankook ATMs in 325/65r18. DTD had a great sale over Labor Day that was hard to beat. They price matched Amazon, plus I got $230 in rebates, free mounting balance and shipping (I bought wheels also), no tax. They have a good sale going on now...

Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

It's a 2016 Tundra DC Long. Planning 1-2" of lift. Guessing I'll have ~1,000lb over the stock weight on the axle when loaded. ~600 unloaded. Removing the bed saves about 400 lbs and the shell of the camper will be about 700 lbs. Those leaves sound like a good way to go. Thanks for the info!

Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

How many leaves did you get to replace the overloads, and what did they cost? I don't want to rely on the bags completely and the camper will be on there all the time. The load will still vary a bit though, which is why I'd like the bags to fine tune ride height and left-right balance.

Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Was it an add a leaf or full pack? Any other details you can provide would be appreciated. I'm thinking I'll add a leaf, plus airbags and daystar cradles when I get the camper built. The springs will carry most of the load and the bags will provide adjustability and fine tuning.
