    Suggestions Please, Early June

Please tell me more about the Devil's Tower area and what you would suggest. Thanks. There are FS campgrounds in the area, Devils Tower, a national monument, has a standard camground, (next to a big prairie dog town), the rock is cool, important to Native American traditions, lovely...

    Suggestions Please, Early June

We climbed the Durrance Route between intense thunderstorms common in July. I remember doing a few other classic crack routes, but forget the names now. I've heard good things about the Bad Lands  Climbed Durance as well :) , saw a couple getting married om top complete with veil but...

    Suggestions Please, Early June

It looks like I might be able to squeak in a brief wander, leaving Minneapolis about June 4th and needing to be in Salt Lake City about June 10th. I am planning on SW Colorado for the fall, so I don't want to go that route. I was thinking about the White Rim Trail, and possibly the Dollhouse...

    Advice for new full-timer

Big Bend NP and that area is another option, chilly nights at most elevations (sometimes lower is colder) but pleasant days. The Chiricahuas in SE AZ is also a very nice are and again chilly nights and the elevations will be chillier there. Organ Pipe National Monument can be great, get a...

    Meteor Sunday Morning

Any of you treasure hunters heading out to look for meteorites from this? If this was a nickle-iron body a metal detctor would be useful. Beyond the scientific value, meteorites are worth some $$. Hola HighZ Speaking of booms, do you get them from Holloman AFB? I think it may be the F22's. We...

    Wanted - Camper for boondocking

From June to October this Kiwi planed a boondocking wander in the west with our own (NZ) 4WD truck and Fleet, but shipping plans have failed and now need to find a local rig. Who can help? Key is to find a suitable camper. Will consider any age, any location (in West) and any price considered so...

    making early plans

I drove through Hwy. 12 (Devil's Backbone?) in Utah one time, much more quickly than I would have liked. It was really beautiful. I am wondering, and the OP might want to know, is there a lot do along the route? I remember seeing some CG's, but any specific suggestions? I remember in a few...

    Mining Rallies (of sorts)

but can take you to the trace of an overthrust fault on the southern slope of McCartney Mountain, north of the Big Hole River, near Block Mountain, Montana, where a spectacular fault breccia is in outcrop, with silicified, slickensided hand specimens littering an area of about a quarter-acre...

    making early plans

The later you can do it the better. Hit the Black Hills. Mt Rushmore is crowded but still worthwhile, Needles Hwy is great. Devils tower is also very cool, take up climbing! West from there is Fossil Butte National Monument, a worthy stop, and just South is Dinosaur National Monument, also...

    Way West

They seem to have lots of little campervans to rent, also thinking of doing in on a motorcycle. I did drive across the Nullarbor Plain and the Great Ocean Road, from Melbourne to Perth on a Suzuki 650 and that was cool. Any thoughts or experiences?

    Lake Superior

Ha! I wish that were the case. However I do need to find a way to pay for it. Anyone take their dogs across the border? If so any suggestions? From what I gather you only need rabies Vac and a general health report. Has anyone out there experienced any other potholes? I think...

    Lake Superior

Going on the South side of the lake has nothing to do with an interstate, from Duluth you'd be on US2/M28 to Sault Ste Marie. Rural roads through the forest. The scenic bits are off the highway. Not sure if it would save you any miles, depending on just where you are heading from and to.

    Heavy Half?

I've met quite a few that rely strictly on what the dealer told them. Not a good source of trustworthy knowledge  I think RV salespeople (some)were too sleazy for the used car lots. A friend female, bought a new Subaru wagon because the dealer said it was safer, had a "truck chassis"...

    Heavy Half?

My 3/4 Ford 7.3 has enough capacity to stay legal with a loaded Grandby, too many people, dogs, and supplies including solar, extra batteries, chains, farm jack, etc. but not by much. If I were shopping new or used I would focus on a 1 ton and if I had any thoughts about getting a hardside then...
