    Building a back porch

Nice Antelope you got there! Is that a Suzuki you're riding? I fabricated the receivers myself, both for the F150 & now the F250. I'm attaching a few pics of the very scientific process of figuring them out. Alot of crawling around, scratching my head & staring. As usual, the hard part is the...

    Building a back porch

At Craigf250 & Cort; nice work, very solid! I've seen a couple 'back porch' setups carrying a lot of weight (one w/ a KLR650 far enough back to enable access to, & full operation of rear door) based on a single point hitch mount with little -if any- reinforcement. Always made me shake my head...

Southern Utah (with a little northern AZ) May 2011

I will be in that area early next week. Will try to ring you up, also Tuna is poking around there somewhere. Jeff I'm South of Durango right now, going to go pick up another old motorcycle. At Angel Peak, windy as hell! Been blowing all night. Not sure where I will end up tonight, only have...

    Gila Fire

Bad news is there probably won't be any rain for at least 6 more weeks :( I was in the Dusty, NM area yesterday, up near Mt. Worthington and I could see smoke from the Gila from there.

    Building a back porch

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the StrapRings. Regardless of where the bike is mounted, I have found these to be very handy. I like them because they lower the mounting attachment point and don't interfere with the control cables. Thanks, had mine out yesterday, faster than antelope

Hello All, New guy here. Been enjoying all the info & finally have something to contribute. Overall I love my porch, can't imagine traveling without it. Hope this helps. Craig Excellent, That is almost exactly what I need. May extend the existing receiver so I can still tow a small...

    Spring Time!

Ahhh, springtime in New Mexico... The Mayhill fire is just a few miles from my home. I haven't had to evacuate yet, and keep your fingers crossed that I don't. The FWC is all packed up with a bug-out bag and my important papers, just in case. Another reason to own an FWC/ATC! Hope the closing...

    Spring Time!

Wow, what a different world from down here in S NM right now. The entire Lincoln National Forest closing, lots of the Gila National Forest closing from out of control fire near the Gila Cliff Dwellings, evacuations in progress. Chiricahuas also being evacuated near Cave Creek from a big fire...

A different WTW- Amtrak from El Paso to Montana

Cool trip! I nearly took the Amtrak from El Paso to Bloomington, IL a couple weeks ago but ended up taking the motorcycle. Took 2 1/2 days including a 9 hour layover in San Antonio where they said there would be times without power but you could stay on board. I'll have to try some other time...

    Another Roof Lifting Mechanism

Not having to carry extra equipment is a plus to me. My lifter thingies are always on and ready to do the job, up or down, never have to think about them and they work really well. Install was pretty simple as well.

    DC fridge versus AC/DC fridge

Opinions of if the added cost for the AC/DC model would be worth having given my needs? Has anyone just gone with a DC unit and have regrets? Thanks! No regrets, I have a Coleman Stirling type that has a little converter so I can run on AC if I want but with solar and batteries I never...

    Building a back porch

Sorry, I added this part... "As the bolt at the end of the carrier rack is tightened the diagonal cut section is pulled aft (like in the top photo), and eventually tightens up the entire section inside the receiver hitch. Sort of like some of those aftermarket, anti-rattle devices, but it's got...

    Building a back porch

Some ideas / options here: http://www.discountramps.com/carriers.htm I have a Blue Ox Weight Dist hitch and am impressed with it. They also make some nice carriers with double receiver support: http://www.blueox.us/carriers/carriers.htm I have a single and it can do but..... I ran into a...

    Building a back porch

Definitely go the three tube route. My friend did that and went all over Baja. The middle receiver tube is enough to support the weight, however having the out board supports keep the channel from swaying and prevent the "bending moment" from stressing the middle support, which could lead to...

    Building a back porch

I've just started thinking about building something similar to haul around tools and junk for a buddies ill concieved desert racing adventures. He wants me to help him in the pits.... I've never been sold on the racks that just attach at the one hitch point. I've searched around for picture...
