I use something similar to the 2 step that Pods has plus I add this for the dogs. I now have 3 receiver tubes on the back so I can place it in either but usually on the drivers side tube. Great for the dogs and a nice big platform for human klutzes as well. It was a cheap Harbor Freight...

Thanks Pods. I agree with you about first looking at the interior. A 50 lbs weight savings alone doesn't seem worth the $ and hassle of building a new floor pack. However the extra insulation and the ability build the floor pack to the exact dimensions of my truck is worth consideration...

BTW Big Bend can get cold, I've camped by the river in December and woke up to 9 degrees. Usually the low elevations are very nice, averages high 60's with lows near freezing. Higher elevations stay a bit cooler of course but not quite as cold in the morning. Snow can be possible in the Chisos...
