I did not consider fuel, thanks, that could be weighty. It comes w/36 gal tank.

    F150 with a 2150 lb payload for a Hawk

Thoughts about whether I should move up in size with my tires? And should I swap for E rated tires? The HD pkg converts the rear axle to electric locking 3.73. If I get taller/larger tires, I am told, it helps, a little, to offset the reduction in fuel economy produced by the higher 3.73 gear ratio?

    F150 with a 2150 lb payload for a Hawk

Hey fellas, the Mrs. wanted Stone Grey, a new Ford color for 2018. I had to defer, she had deferred on most everything else. My tires with the Heavy Duty pkg are LT275/65R18C OWL A/T. SuperCab, long bed. It is a long rig. The Crew would have been way long. Xl tires with same pkg are...

    Finally Ordered, Stoked!

Waffled many times between 1/2 & 3/4 ton. Actually stated a firm order, for both, here on various threads. Ended up convincing my wife that we were better off going light everywhere. I ordered a f150 fx4, super-cab, heavy duty pkg truck. I am going to attempt to build light, & pack light...

    F150 with a 2150 lb payload for a Hawk

I spec’d out a 2018 Lariat F150 today & manually had a order entered at the dealer. I will place it tomorrow. The GVWR is 7850. It did not state payload. With other brochure research I am confident the payload is 2700 & the weight is 5090. This adds up to the GVWR. The payload could be altered...

Need Some Quick Advice - F150 Long Bed Limitations

Alpine ... you are making the exact same choice I am, right now, in real time. I ordered a Grandby Shell Friday, 12/15, with some extras. See my build on FWC Discussions posted in WTW yesterday. The weight is really starting to add up from every angle. I research, a lot, but I did not itemize...

    FWC Camper Weight

I am now getting moderately concerned. I just paid to get in the rotation for a Grandby Shell w/extras. I am ordering a 2018 f150 4x4 super-cab 8’ Bed on Monday, HD properly equipped, payload 2700, Gvw 7850. My shell weighs 975? My options add up to 292lbs. ARB fridge 53lbs. That is 1320lbs with...

    Finally Ordered, Stoked!

I placed my order today, (with the Mrs. on board), for a Grandby Shell. I will order on Monday a 2018 Ford F150 4x4 8’ bed 18” wheels with the heavy duty pkg. This puts my payload at 2700 lb. Max trailer as well. I plan on towing a smoker to BBQ competitions in between adventures & fishing. My...

    Ordering, tomorrow! 2nd battery option?

The Shell Model was altered for 2017. The standard build, which is mandatory, includes the furnace & tanks, one 12V battery & wiring, 12V outlet, hydraulic lifter arms as well. Solar wiring for the roof & rear is also standard. They are going back to less standard items, as per usual, for 2018...

    Ordering, tomorrow! 2nd battery option?

I am ordering a Grandby Shell w/some extras. I will attempt to DIY my own solar. I would rather obtain my own batteries. However, w/FWC, The first battery is standard & mandatory. My question is: What do you get with the 2nd battery option? Do they wire in a 2nd lead? Or do they just add a wire...

84 inches, has bigger been better ...

The wide aisle shown in posted photos looks downright spacious. Have there been any regrets with a wider camper body? Wind resistance, load carrying issues, backing up, parking, internal movement when in use? No truck yet, but looking at 4x4 Ford F-250. What positives? Any negatives? Also, door...

110V system, have it or not, use it or not

This WTW Forum is simply awesome. Great mix of thoughts, opinions & considerations given throughout. The turnbuckle solution may be enough for me. I tend to get cranky camping near anyone unless it’s planned comraderie. However, I can foresee the handiness, dedicated 110V might offer, wandering...

110V system, have it or not, use it or not

Trying to decide how crucial it is having access to shore power. I can get a shell “with” from ATC or shell “w/o” from FWC. Trying to determine if this is a deciding factor, how much consideration it deserves. Looking at pre-trip, trip, post-trip. I realize it has no relevance in the high alpine...

rilcombs ..... thanks for your feedback after 2 years of fiberglass use. Glass appeals to me unless longevity is an issue. Can't wait to start driving my tent around! Anymore fiberglass testimonials?

Lobster1, after I get back in a week or two from a tent camp/fishing trip. I will PM to you. You have exactly what I am looking to do, even the fridge. I have No build skills though. But I have a buddy who is connected. Have you put up a build thread here on WTW? Thanks for your response.

Lobster1 ..... what did you add to your shell? 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck? I would like a 1/2 ton but don't want to do Mods. Airbags maybe ... Might end up getting 3/4 ton. Adam, what model did you get? Truck?

Great feedback! And thanks Alley-Kat for some venting strategy. Your earlier post actually got me thinking about venting. In my former life I was a greenhouse grower, (not that crop), & venting was a big deal. My thoughts are much the same about a fan. Two vents with one premium fan, one vent...

Thanks to all that have commented, appreciate the feedback. It is good to know that the aluminum siding is not a heat sink. A few questions: Does the "thermal pack" help mitigate heat gathered by the pop-up side liner material, as mentioned in post #6? I'm a tent camper my entire life so only...

    Fiberglass exterior reviews needed

Hello FWC nation ... I am looking at a FWC shell purchase, Hawk or Granby, or similar, from ATC. ATC will help outfit individually but I like the improvements FWC has updated over time. Fiberglass siding is an option I am seriously considering, only offered by FWC. How is the Fiberglass holding...

2016 Hawk camper with a twist

Your front dinette looks a little longer, (a little larger) north to south, than the normal Hawk. It looks closer to a Granby (or in between the two) sized front dinette. The camper also looks a little longer or is it the way it is positioned on the truck, more extended in the rear. Do you have...

This is a newer venture by a Northstar camper brother who has coupled with an Aussie Co. to distribute their line in the US and to add his campers to the overall line. I like some of the newer & Euro tech features they are utilizing, you may be familiar with already. I am looking for any opinion...
