    Vancouver Island

I can offer lots of suggestions, but it would help to know when you plan to travel. Some of the Island gets pretty crowded at peak season and is best avoided, for my nickel.

    Ebbetts, Monitor,and Sonora Pass

Thanks for nice report, nice trip. I think your downy woodpecker is in fact a white-headed woodpecker. Pretty sure. See http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/185/overview/White-headed_Woodpecker.aspx and http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/177/overview/Downy_Woodpecker.aspx

Alaska, Alaskan CO and grey water

I'd sure go with some kind of closed greywater container and try to empty (down privy or something) at night. In the interior of British Columbia I once had a bear attracted to an exterior greywater bucket that only had toothpaste suds in it. It was not a restful night. Alaska has some real...

    Awning Thoughts?

I added a side awning to my Ranger II, and like it very much. It's not great in wind, but is a nice source for shade and shelter in mild rain. I used to do the tarp, tent poles thing but just got fed up with setting it up and stowing it.

TRip Report: 3 week meandering to OR/CA/NV

Thanks for the report(s). Sounds like a fine trip. Some country I know; some with which I'd like to become acquainted. Thanks for sharing.

Placing the Order for a Grandby

I bought a used Ranger II last year. I'm 65. I expect to have use of it for another 15 years. Don't let your age set you back in your decision. I had an old friend in Vancouver (Canada) who did her last drive to Alaska when she was 89 and thereafter limited herself to trips into the Interior...

Shhh...I've got a couple spots like this in British Columbia. Ask me in person and I'll show them to you. But no way would I publicise.

    Wave 3 Heater glitch

Thanks Ski3, actually I have a copy of the user guide, given to me by some considerate folks when I got the camper. :) I keep all the manuals and documentation with me when I travel. I also carry and distribute business cards for ATC to the folks who tell me what a nifty camper it is.

    Wave 3 Heater glitch

Yes, there's a thermocouple. But I suspect Ski3 has called it and that it's the main control. It's kinda acted like it had something to do with my turning it. Thanks for advice. I think there are a couple of RV outfits near me that sell and service these. I'll do some phoning around...

    Wave 3 Heater glitch

As far as I can figure there isn't much can go wrong with one of these, but mine has become reluctant to light. I'm pretty sure it's actually the propane intake--When I turn it on sometimes I hear and smell gas and sometimes not. It lights fine and stays lit as long as I follow instructions...

looking for quiet campsite near Sacramento

Thanks to everyone for suggestions. I finally got away this last weekend and went up to Sly Park. Good cell phone coverage. Quiet. Locals said it was likely the final quiet weekend before the season livens up. It was wonderfully restful and restorative. I'll likely follow up on some of...

    This REALLY bugs me!

Yep, I know the Klamath midges. Amazing. There's a midge-washing stop at the Kla-Mo-Ya travel station north of Klamath Falls. Never saw the like. Great birding area--I've always thought there was some connection between the bug population and the popularity for the birds.

    Bodega Bay - March 2014

Wonderful report. Happy to hear the Sandpiper's got its act back together. It used to be great, but a year ago I had a very disappointing breakfast there. Spud Point Crabs are super yummy! It is a lovely place, Bodega, although I gottoo say I prefer it in the off seasons to the summer: 1...

looking for quiet campsite near Sacramento

Well, this is it. I'm currently the sole caregiver for my 98-year-old mother, who is definitely failing. She wakens every hour or so during the night, needing help and then sleeps all day. Need I say I'm awake in the day. I'm simply exhausted and need to camp somewhere near for a couple...
