    No.....but a pretty close clone!

    Fitting a 70’s Alaskan to a 2008 F150XL

Back in the day, one question that Alaskan asked you was about the truck bed; is it a Fleetside or a Stepside. While my '88 F-25 is a "Fleetside" style bed, my Alaskan was made to fit a Stepside since you can't access any plumbing or electricals that go through the side of the lower section of...

    Thickness of your cushions

Even with the original cushion up in the C/O, the sides that fold down are not fully FLAT and then you have to lower the front on top of them. This will distort the Pirelli seal somewhat, so if you leave a cushion or something to support the front wall off the sides, that would be a good idea.

1976 Cab Over Alaskan Camper .... As-Is, Mods,Damage and Fixes

I suggest you install a strain-relief wire clip like the one seen in this factory set up for the pigtail. It will keep the vibrations and movement of the wiring from wiggling loose the small plug from the camper. Chuck the pic out, I have several and they all show the last/bottom screw holding...

    Help to ID a camper

You are correct....this is a tag dated 1958. It also has the first version of the mfger tag with only ONE patent on it. I don't know of any way to find out the number of them produced during1958 unless you can find a sticker anywhere inside that lists the serial number and weight information as...

    Thickness of your cushions

As noted, the thickness isn't the deciding factor when it comes to sleeping comfort. I would agree that if you took a cushion to a good foam shop and explained that you would prefer a finished thickness like the one you brought, but want it to be more comfortable I think they can help. I have...

looking for 8' cab over pop up Camper that offers utility

Have you thought about getting a camper for sleeping and storage of food/prep etc. and towing a trailer set up specifically for two motorcycles and a lockable motorcycle box for helmets, leathers, spares, etc.???

done with the traditional Dometic 3 way.

I'd be surprised that it had problems working if you were going to raise the top on an Alaskan. I find that if I don't get some leveling for the truck, that the top binds one the way up and/or on the way down.....I know if you just climb into the back to hit the hay without putting up the top...

    Should I modify or sell?

x3 with the guys...if it is nice, you can post yours on craigslist and it will probably get you enough cash to be close to what the C/O will cost you. We had an 8' NCO years ago and my wife and I also finally got too cramped in the 48" wide sleeping berth it has. We went to a Lance, which got a...

    Gas vs Diesel

I'm sure that axle ratios have something to do with RPMs on the highway which in turn effect MPGs. If you were to drive the majority of the trips on highways where you could do higher MPHs, you'd be burning either fuel at a higher rate and consequently have lower MPGs. Any thoughts on that or...

Aluminum Frame Telescoping Camper with Alaskan Style Cabover Fold Up corners

Interesting idea.....what is the R value of the aluminum skin and whatever amount of insulation you can cram in there for the lower section versus what I think is either 3/4" or 7/8" thick plywood with aluminum over it (except for the floor)? For the upper, what is the difference in the weight...

    Campsite Fees

Quite a mess here....which is more desirable to the Campsite host? 1) Camper sleeping 3-4 persons and a tent sleeping 6 more people? Meaning 10 people for one vehicle fee? 2) Camper sleeping 3-4 persons and tent trailer sleeping 4 more people? Meaning DOUBLE "vehicle fee"? 3) SUV carrying 5...

    On Expo Portal-Turnbuckle gone wrong

Whatever method you choose, whatever product you purchase and install....that damage was REALLY caused by what they call "Pilot Error". There is a reason you do a "pre-flight inspection" before taking off....because "STUFF HAPPENS". In this case, I think checking any style of tie-down you have...

    Campsite Fees

Rules is rules...like 'em or not I suppose....just ask the campground host for a copy of the "rules" so you can "keep them on file for the future". If they can't produce a copy of the very "rules" they intend on enforcing that covers pets, fires, noise, etc. then ask them for the website that...

    Alaskan expedition trailer

With the door closed, look at the edge of the door and the edge of the door frame....there should be the same amount of the door frame exposed at the top and bottom. Too much exposed at the top of the door and the upper section will bind on the slides making it difficult to raise and a real...

    Alaskan Camper Gallery

I see Harold has the same idea I had....find a 1/4 ton trailer to haul all the valuable "stuff" you need to set up camp in it rather than jamming it into the Alaskan and having it scratch things and basically take up all the space in there. My F-250 has a "backseat" I can put some stuff, but...

    Got ants in your camper?

OK, you are getting ready to go out and mount your camper but have found that ants are now making their way into it as they have found something you overlooked when you dismounted it previously. I hade an ant problem at home for about a week or so in the cat feeder near the rack door and in my...

    Top Raises and Lowers Unevenly

My 8' CO suffered this uneven issue. I found that the rear would bind even when I "assisted" it. So, after insuring I had a full reservoir with the camper in the DOWN position. (if your reservoir is nearly empty, you need to fill it and bleed each piston) I discovered that in looking at the...

Hey Doc....as always, we like more pics of your Alaskan inside and outside! I have a '76 8' CO myself. Hydraulics not holding pressure the top is resting on the pins...

Doc.... NEVER drive with the top up on an Alaskan!!!!! Once you have raised the top to the point where it tops out, you can insert the four pins and then open up the valve to allow the top to settle on the four pins which is how this system was designed. When you are going to go home, close...
