RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West roof lifting helper shocks thingys

One thing I haven't read in this thread is that these struts take a lot of load off of the lifter panels. I have the original panels, now 20 years old, and they're not in good shape. If the panels are in real bad shape would they need to be replaced after you have the shock assist? Would you...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West How to start 1986 gas fridge

1986 Keystone. 12 V and 110 work fine on the fridge. Can't seem to get gas to work. The door of the fridge says Sanyo but the vents are the typical dometic. Any advice on how to start it up and / or troubleshoot?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Resize Floor Pac - Keystone Build

Yes, we are saying the exact same thing. It's just plywood on the Keystone in the area of rework.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Resize Floor Pac - Keystone Build

I take it since it was a keystone you didn't need to bother reworking the back frame which is where the aluminum work would come into play for most other campers? The aluminum work you speak of is in the front, but not the back (past the bed but it is there). Having said that, the little...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Resize Floor Pac - Keystone Build

Anyone know how to program / use this clock - timer thing?????? One thing I should also add, is that this camper's wiring was still intact. But realistically, a lot of the wire would normally need replacement as the connectors were pretty flimsy.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Resize Floor Pac - Keystone Build

Well, I promised I would post photos. As many are aware, older FWC will not fit a modern pickup. This project was easier than I thought it would be. To summarize, 45 minutes to demo, 11 hours total to re-ply the floor pack. On the older Keystone, the passenger side is a no-brainer. Would...

Oops, my bad... I forgot the keystone does not hang BELOW the bed, there is no problem with the spare.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Dodge Spare / Keystone

Did a search and couldn't find anything on this subject... But what are you doing with the older keystones where the Dodge spare tire access bolt thingamajig is covered by the camper?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Temporary Camper Shuttling

If in a section that you are replacing and the wood is good you could probably just make a hole big enough that the hook of the ratchet strap locks in. ding ding ding, this is exactly what we'll do. Thanks everyone!

How far are ya going? And will there be highway speeds? Yep, highway speeds. There are currently NO tiedown points on the camper.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Temporary Camper Shuttling

Hello, We are going to move my used 86 keystone camper to a different garage to begin resizing the floor pac. The rig it is temporarily going on is not setup with camper tiedowns. Additionally, this camper was permanently mounted so there are no tiedown points to use. The current plan is to...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Manual vs automatic transmission?

Lots of good input on this thread. One big issue for me is will this be a daily driver? Auto sure is nice if it's the rig you regularly drive. I only drive my pickup when I'm hauling something. So I wish I could have found a manual, but I couldn't.... Had to go with what I found a good deal...

Thanks everyone! I will keep the furnace and install a wave separately.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Wave versus Furnace

Gotcha... It sounds like the best option is to leave the existing furnace in then you can just use the wave on nights that aren't as cold.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Wave versus Furnace

Since I am gutting my keystone, I am thinking about ripping out the furnace and putting in a wave catalytic heater. I have a few questions: -How long (ballpark) will a standard deep cycle batter operate a 1986 furnace? -It looks like the cheapest you can find these wave heaters is around $300...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Another 1/2 Ton versus 3/4 Ton Truck Question

I have a 3/4 ton Dodge that doesn't budge an inch with a regular hard shell camper on top and tandem axle trailer behind it. Suspension is factory original. Beats your kidneys to drive it, but it's the real deal... Prior to that, I had various half ton and midsized pickups. Mileage dropped...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Narrow Older FWC for Modern Pickup

I'm looking at a couple of older FWCs that are that 64" wide (bed rail to bed rail). I would also need to do the trimming to 58" to get it to fit. This may be my next project. I have been obsessing over the planning of this project and honestly I think the most time consuming part will be...
