tree, Always a complication, right? Where there is a will, there is a way, I guess. That is certainly one way to get around the wall thickness. I will keep it in mind, thanks B

Thanks for the pic tree - definitely pushing 2". The Marinco plug has the wire exiting the rear of the inlet at a right angle (parallel to the wall surface) at about 1 1/2"..... I may not get to recycle the port after all. If the side wall is the same, that is. B

Tree, Thanks for the info - 2" wall thickness sounds like a lot! (well built). I measured the thickness of the side wall at the battery box vent as best I could and it was more like 1" if memoory serves - will have to double check that for sure. My plan is for a charger and one outlet for a...

Tree, I realized after posting that I had hi-jacked your install thread. My apologies for that. How thick was the wall of the camper where you installed your AC port? (It's not obvious from the pic but that is on the rear wall, yes?) My plan is for the side wall, driver's side. Theory being a...

Vic, I am planning a Marino 30 amp (I have one in the "archives" anyway) The way they mount from the outside requires some sort of box or surround that attaches to something solid (frame or brackets to cabinet?) A faceplate with appropriate hole attached to the box and against the inside of the...

Please bear in mind as well that he is talking about boats. In a long voyage scenario where maintaining batteries correctly can be critical for navigation (gps) for example. I think that is where actually knowing the capacity would possibly be worth the effort. He does say that using an amp/hr...

Vic, That was pretty much my "take away" from the article. The battery voltage is the number to watch, not the SOC. I have an early Victron monitor in a boat and will be using it a little differently now. Just knowing that the SOC reading can be off is valuable. The Balmar monitor looks...

Here is a good write up on using a battery monitor, and how NOT to just believe what it says. Written for sailors, so info is a little more critical halfway across the Pacific Ocean, but still applies. The author is a highly respected person in his field. Also links to a "new" kind of battery...

Been looking at the Molex website... so far nothing matching, but that could be because I haven't found it yet among the bazillion connectors they make. Will let you know if I do find it...

Vic, I just got the mppt controllers and haven't yet had time to find a matching connector. Seems I read on a programming forum (guys were talking about what language worked with what device etc - way over my head) Some of them were getting data with just 2 of the pins so they were basically...

Vic, Nice when a plan works out!! Did you buy the Victron VE direct cables (for the mppt monitor) or make one up yourself? (edited to correct autocorrect)

That's the trick, for sure. Batts from full charge showing 12.99 volts after about 18 hours (not connected to anything. Just checked and the low voltage disconnect opens at 12.25 volts with the "open low" jumper connected instead of the 12.75 volts that is the normal trigger. That doesn't...

ntsqd, Thanks for the reply - haven't had a chance to try that yet. I don't doubt it will be as you suggest. Once the voltage drops below the set point the ACR should open. Still sorting through the plethora of information and advice that has been posted on various topics. Great resources and...

Thanks Vic, I have ordered the 7622, and the Victron solar controller. Shameless copying of a good plan I will admit. Though as I mentioned I have worked with Victron stuff on boats previously and like their products. My concern with switching out the truck battery was due to charging the one...

Hi there Newbie to the forum here. Just picked up a new Grandby shell model (furnace, stove and camper battery factory installed) Have been reading this thread with interest trying to sort out what am going to do with it. Have used Victron products in boats and have always been impressed. I...
