RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hydraulic Jack Question(s)

Got my issue solved today - went to a hydraulic shop - the guy showed me a 1/2" aluminum cap with a vent hole & even a screen. Set me back a whole $2.00. Ready for some more camping :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hydraulic Jack Question(s)

I just called Alaskan Campers with a few questions about my hydraulic jack but they're in the process of relocating and will not be available for a few days. So I thought I'd post my questions here & see if anyone has the answers. The fill cap on the hydraulic jack on my '72 broke. I got a PVC...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '72 Cabover Lowering Problems

thought I'd post this photo of a campground I stayed at in Banff NP - notice on the black board, "No tents or soft sided trailers due to bear actiivity" - although some may feel apprehensive about camping in a place with known bear activity even in a hard sided camper, I felt very secure. Had...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front and side panels

One of the most pleasant things life is to be in my '72 Cabover when it is raining barrels outside. I am as dry as cornflakes inside. A bit about weatherstripping - I have some rubber weatherstripping I put in the gaps next to the cabover panels, and keep a bag full of strips of bubble wrap and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '72 Cabover Lowering Problems

I'm trying to figure out how you twist the release valve then stand up fast enough to grab ahold of the bar - it seems to me, it's crucial to apply a downward pressure immediately after releasing the valve. By the time it would take me to stand up to grab the bar it would be too late!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '72 Cabover Lowering Problems

Before I bought my camper this had occurred to one of the pistons - a hole was in the ceiling but hadn't affected the aluminum roof. Then shortly after, lifting the top up, it had slipped off the bracket back into this hole in the roof! I then realized the bolt holding it onto the bracket was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '72 Cabover Lowering Problems

Should have also mentioned that Bryan suggested without the flow valves to tie a rope to the top of the back & pull down compensating for the weight in the front when lowering - I did that today & the top came down - easy peesy - it also gave me pause to reflect on 43 years of marriage - yup -...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '72 Cabover Lowering Problems

According to Bryan, the flow controls have been used for 25 years. This unit is 43 years old. I used it extensively on my trip - and probably unwise on my part, had a 60 lb canoe & a 25 lb bicycle strapped to the boat rack. I'd say all in all the Alaskan has a good track record.

Called AC today & talked to Bryan - he was as always, very helpful. He suggested that I install flow control valves (Parker PF400B from zoro.com), they would help all four Pistons to sync together. I ordered 4 of them today. Hopefully this solves the problem. He also assured me this is not an O...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '72 Cabover Lowering Problems

Hello! Just returned from an 8,575 mile trip to Canada & Alaska with my '72 CO. Camper performed fantastic most of the time - never had any problem raising the top - but nearing the end of the trip I started having problems lowering. Now back home I am still having problems with all four pistons...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Changing Hydraulic Fluid

I may need to do more than bleed my system. I bled the system and it helped, but only getting a small umph from each pump, 105 to be exact to raise the top. O rings seem ok - nothing is leaking. Any ideas?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Using a camper off truck while at camp?

Well I think the idea is original - as for capitalizing on it, all I'd want in return is a one single XP camper rig .... That's all http://youtu.be/U4CUN-OdUnA

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Using a camper off truck while at camp?

For me it would be a great advantage to dismount the camper establishing a base camp. I believe in my lifetime I'll see it - a quick & easy way to load, unload. I have far fetched ideas sometimes (often times!) but here's an idea I believe can work - a bale bed. If it can work with a 2400 lb...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AC Unit for Campers

The point I wanted to make by posting the Shasta retro video was to call attention to where the AC is located. Is located low to the floor instead of on the roof. Now 'that' makes sense.

Sort of on the same note, Shasta is reissuing their 1961 trailer. Here's a video link. If I were getting a trailer I'd look seriously into this. Check out the AC unit that is in this puppy- nice! http://youtu.be/Xp7WRedZgPU

Thanks again for responses. I measured from the back of my bumper to the end of my tailgate and it's 14". I see that as a plus, rather than protruding beyond the bumper a whole 24". Please, one more question on this subject and I will promise something much less trivial in a future topic :)...
