RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electricity while off grid

You're probably aware of this but I thought I'd mention it for other readers. That ground wire could be useful to you for the D250SA. If you connect the small black wire (the 'AGM wire') coming out of the D250SA to ground, the D250SA will bulk-charge at 14.7 volts (nominal). If you don't...

I believe that's a ground wire. If you pull the box and look on the back you should see "GND" at that wire... at least according to this R12140B manual. The diagram shows it running to the house battery's negative post. .

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replace, Upgrade, or Repair Norcold Fridge/Freezer?

Agreed. I shouldn't have said 'your Six Pac's electrical system' when what I meant was the overall design of the battery charging system of both truck and camper. Sorry about that! Since Fred doesn't mention solar, I assume he doesn't have it. According to this Six Pac manual, the standard...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replace, Upgrade, or Repair Norcold Fridge/Freezer?

I don't have a fridge so may not be the best person to comment. Nevertheless.. - If the fridge is in relatively good condition physically and you have the time and inclination to mess with it, I'd see what videos there are on YouTube to try to repair the existing fridge... or at least...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West '96? Hawk Shell "Build"

Welcome, jeepinjoe. Looking forward to your build photos! Now that's an interesting one. May I ask what you know about the added-on corner-covers on the outside of the roof? And when you get a chance, can you tell us how you lift and stabilize your roof? I don't see the normal lift...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2018 Palomino SS550

All- For those of us interested in what the various truck-camper manufacturers are doing, the video below has a couple of interesting points. It's a tour of the 2019 Palomino SS-550, this one the 'Badland' edition. The Badland version has a few more options- like 2nd battery tray, solar, and...

Thanks for posting your experience. Your post also led me to find this Truck Camper Magazine review of the 2016 version for more photos and that in turn linked to this TCM article on the Rieco-Titan electric lift developed for it. And I see that last one appears to say you can also raise and...

Lol... I was passed by a Swift on a white Tacoma about an hour ago on I-95 in Florida near the Kennedy Space Center turnoff. California plate ‘SPEYROD’. He slowed to a sane speed alongside me to wave hello then disappeared in the distance in very short order. .

Hey, buckland... sorry I’m slow to reply. Yep, I’m on my annual tour of Florida backcountry for a few weeks. When your plans firm up, drop me a PM and perhaps I can help. I kinda travel all over the state, typically overnighting at national and state forests, wildlife management areas, etc...

I just saw an FWC Hawk on a blue Ford (F150?) on Florida SR29 south of Labelle at the Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest turnoff. Carrying a kayak. I followed him for a few miles but he turned west for Fort Myers and I’m southbound for the Picayune Strand State Forest.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West When do you think I’ll be able to get my Geezer Pass?

The USGS pdf of sites where you can buy passes is interesting. I was surprised to see there's a BLM field station in Lorton, Virginia that manages two small BLM sites on the lower Potomac River (but they don't sell senior passes) The list also shows National Wildlife Refuges and Seashores...

Rats. I was hoping for a manufacturer name. Now that raises the question of why it doesn't have one. I also found this NHTSA "Motorhome and Pickup Camper Safety" booklet which tells us (on page 9) that the labelling requirements went into effect on January 1, 1973 (and included the name of...

Gee... that name is very interesting. I can't find Thermo-lite 4 but searching led to "Thermo-Lite Board®" manufactured by SpaceAge Synthetics, Ltd. of Fargo, North Dakota. And that in turn reminds me of seeing this 2013 Truck Camper Magazine article where Tom Hanagan said the new composite...

Hmmm... Those are Florida Keys place names. Ocean Reef Drive in Key Largo to Marathon Government Center is about 70 miles and an hour-and-a-half drive one-way (and that's if you don't have papers to deliver) according to my Google-ator. And the bay side of Blackwater Sound isn't along the...

Thanks! I'm not sure why but I find the same label regulations in 49CFR 571.126 in what appears to be an October 1, 1973 version (page 509) (I hope the link works correctly. Oddly, the e-book title shows as "Code of Federal Regulations: 1949-1984" but page 1 indicates it's 49 CFR parts 200 to...

Thanks for that info, Craig. It's unclear how the "Manufactured By" space was used by the several owners of FWC over the years. If we had more examples like yours, we might be able to figure it out. (If any of you vintage camper owners have that info from your camper, please post!) I see...

On the subject of trickle charging.... I believe the trickle-charging in post 15 refers to features of the D250SA and SMARTPASS. On page four of the manual, this is how it's described for the D250SA: "Trickle charging of the starter battery from a solar panel. The D250SA trickle charges the...

Just a few notes on the D250SA in case the info may be helpful to someone. I've been running one in my rig since October 2017 and am happy with it but I may not be the typical FWC user. I have a D250SA but I don't have the SMARTPASS. I'm only running a single battery and use it for LED lights...
