RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

It charges the battery fully each day with the fridge running, when parked in the sun. I ran it for a week straight without driving (so no alternator charge) at fridge temps (around 37 degrees) and checked the battery in evenings and every morning before the sun came up. There were a couple of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Large Solar Panels on a FWC

Bwht4x4-- My experience with a Solar World 140 watt panel (made in USA), 115 AH AGM battery, and a NovaKool compressor fridge is that the panel provides what I need without worry, but I don't park in the shade for long periods. It does put out decent amperage when it's overcast. The panel...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central Toast's Gas Can and Shovel Carrier

Cont'd II... One more detail. I put 1/4" plywood spacers between the camper's plywood wall and the aluminum brackets so that the brackets would clear the piece of metal trim at the corner of the camper. All bolts into the camper are sealed with 3M 4200 and all nuts are aircraft and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central Toast's Gas Can and Shovel Carrier

Cont'd... I re-purposed the rear wall step bolt holes to bolt the diamond plate to the rear wall. These bolts don't carry any of the weight but they take out any front-back flex in the plate, not that there is much. I put a piece of 1" aluminum square tube in between so the bracket-to-plate...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central Toast's Gas Can and Shovel Carrier

Thought I would add another variation on the jerry can theme. This version was a pain in the butt to put together but in the end it is working great on my Hawk. It would be much easier to construct with a drill press or a welder, but I did it with lots of bolts and a hand drill because that's...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacement Roof Latches

I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I can't find a source for new roof latches on my Hawk. Lots of similar ones out there, but nothing quite the same. I want the same ones so I can re-use the screw holes. If anyone knows where to find the factory spec latches, please let me know...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanted- Corner Jacks

Please let me know if you have any Reico-Titan mechanical corner jacks that you would like to unload, or if you happen to come across any for sale at a good price. Looking for 4 total ideally but I would buy in pairs, too. Please post a reply or send me a PM, thanks!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BBQ for camper - with a poll!

I use the Coleman Fold N Go as well, and I'm another David H....it stays lit in wind, the igniter actually works, it contains the grease, and it gets plenty hot. It folds way smaller than any of the other gas grills I've seen because propane tube and controller pops right out and the carrying...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rotopax Carrier mounted under camper, over cab.

Very nicely done. You could sell that to many cabover camper owners.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Leak chasing...

I had leaks in the same area and elsewhere around the canvas. Re-sealing the joint all the way around the rim of the roof cleared up the leaks instantly (where the aluminum trim joins the roof aluminum sheet). I found dirt and algae behind the old caulking (which was silicone) most of the way...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West auxiliary gas cans

Great design on that over-the-cab can holder. I recently added a carrier to the back of hawk by bolting two boat trailer brackets through the plywood sidewall and then attaching a piece of diamond plate to that. I stabilized it by bolting the diamond plate through the rear wall step bolt holes...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1st gen. Tundra air bags and cradles

Yes. Mostly washboard roads and easy two-track when the camper is on. Although we just did 5 days in Death Valley with the FWC Hawk on it and the airbags did great through Goler and Mengel, which were a little more rock crawling than I typically seek with a camper, but no issues. 10 years and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1st gen. Tundra air bags and cradles

I've had AirLift airbags on my 2003 access cab 4x4 for ten years with a heavy Northstar camper on it. I've never had any issues with the airbags. Granted, I also had Santa Maria Spring add to leaf springs to each stack. Never tried the Firestone bags.

Aha..and that is why I asked! I've exposed my elictrical ineptitude. Thank for the replies! I'll post my parallel setup when it's done.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a Second Battery

I thought I might add a second AGM battery to my new to me Hawk. I've researched wiring two 12v batteries in series and it is pretty straightforward, so I don't see any reason not to add a second battery. Are there any issues that I should be aware of? E.g., would the alternator not charge...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Air Bag brands

I've had AirLift kit #59530 on my 2003 Tundra for about ten years now with no issues. I've been carrying a very heavy Northstar on it and haven't held back too much on taking it off road. I also have two extra leaf springs on each stack (done by Santa Maria Spring). Should be more than enough...

Thanks SLOJET...I'm looking to get around $1000 for the trailer but don't have any specs for you right now; reach me via messenger if you are interested in it and I will take measurements and photos, etc. It is a stout trailer. King Taco--Nice rig! from your posts I would expect that we may...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2003 Hawk Revival Questions

Thanks pods8--the picture with question #4 is from the inside of the camper, looking at the back of the shore power access area, which is sited between the fridge and the front wall. I you looked from the outside, through the shore power access door, you would see the same hole in the plywood...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2003 Hawk Revival Questions

Just joined the forum--proud new owner of a much-abused and neglected 2003 hawk. I'm unburying my 2003 Tundra from the Northstar that it's been carrying. We had some great Baja and Sierra trips over the last ten years, but it's going to eventually crush my truck and/or fall apart in a very...
