RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hydraulics Are Okay, But Top Isn't Coming Up Level.....?

The back of the camper (at the door) may be out of alignment. Some people need to shim the outer edges of the camper to true up the opening and that'll straighten up the glides.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed utility trailer for storage?

I bought an old popup camper for $100, tore it down and use it to store my Alaskan when it's off the truck. I needed something that would roll on gravel.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Repainting the Alaskan emblem, what paint?

I used exterior spray paint for mine. After I sprayed the white base coat, I sprayed the colors into a small cup (messy) and brushed the color on the raised parts with a fine tipped brush. Slow and steady! Auto touch up paint would probably work, too.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to open upper door from inside when lowered?

I was looking at an ad in Greenville, SC craigslist today for an older Alaskan, and I noticed how the upper door handle was attached to a rod that passed up through the window frame and along the inside of the rear window. It seemed like a pretty good idea for keeping the opener tight to the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trucks for an Alaskan Camper

That is going to be one good looking combo, and really functional, too. If I didn't already have a truck, that one that you just got would be my choice... 1 ton utility bed, manual, diesel 4x4, extended cab, no carpet, and then an Alaskan on top... perfect!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West dented white siding

I re-glued my veneer and added some drywall corner bead to hold it down. The bead doesn't show with the top and bottom re-connected and it isn't thick enough to interfere with anything. I have some dents on my aluminum panels from the old style camper jacks, that may be where your dents came...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper on jack stands

I read somewhere that it’s best to keep an Alaskan camper raised up during storage to allow for air circulation to help prevent mold and mildew. I keep mine raised, on an old pop-up trailer frame and in the barn. I don’t put the jacks on, but I do block up the trailer frame to stabilize it and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West commiseration thread

I’ve had success removing rusty old screws by cutting a slot in them with a Dremel and a cutting wheel. The heat generated plus a clean slot for a flat blade screw driver usually lets you turn them right out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Howdy

They are harder to find here in the south east. When you do find one, take some tools and a sawzall with you. I had to do some surgery on my Alaskan to get it to fit in my truck for the trip home. Good luck with your search.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Recommendations for slide lube on 10' CO

Check the rear glides for alignment. The back end can splay open or closed a bit, depending on how flat it sits in the truck bed. You might need to shim the base at the outer edges to get the door opening square.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to repair a rock ping?

If you can't repair it, maybe you could cover it. I've had to hide problem areas on my campers before and one way is to find an appropriate tag or emblem and stick it on the offending area. Here’s a picture of my Shasta that somebody had put a hasp on the door to padlock it. The two emblems...
