RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1972 CO New Owner - Bolt Down

I've also carried it unsecured with the tailgate closed - that's how the previous owner used it all over the country. The underside of my 1978 has 1x4 strips running from front to back, I added 1x4 going horizontal for extra clearance over my side rails. If I were to bolt it down, I'd try to go...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1972 CO New Owner - Door Width

Hope I'm not too late... on my 1978 Alaskan NCO, the open door dimensions are 20.25" wide by 42" tall for the lower door and 26" wide by 27" tall for the upper door. The upper door folds back flat against the camper so it opens all the way.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Beginning our Alaskan adventure

I removed the stops and pistons and rested the top half on the bottom half with 2x4's at the corners. Removing the skins would be the best way to repair the rotten framing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to Dismount & Mount Pickup Canopy -- Solo?

I have mine hanging from the rafters by a cable pulley system and 120 volt wench. I was going to use this idea in the barn to load/unload my Alaskan, but changed my mind. The short chain sections are there as safeties to carry the load and keep the cable stress-free during storage. Check out...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaskan manufacturing history, comparative quality (older vs. newer)

Hey Golds, that's great that you could keep your Alaskan in the family for so long. As far as comparative quality from different times and plants, I was impressed with my 1978 Alaskan built in Manheim, PA. Matching wood grain on cabinet doors: And no particle board.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Here...

You might want to take a sawzall and some other cutting tools. Depending on whether your Alaskan has flat sides on the lower box or the extended storage behind the wheel wells, you may need to operate on it to get it to fit at the tailgate. I had to cut off one of the behind the wheel well boxes...

Now would be a good time to check your fire extinguishers to see if they are on the recall list. There's a thread about it here: https://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/15434-kidde-fire-extinguisher-recall/?hl=kidde I had a bunch of old extinguishers laying around from previous camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Converting to Internal Tie Downs

On mine, the plywood that was cut to make the hatch is covered in plastic and fits back in the hole - supported by flat aluminum on the outside. You can see the part of the plywood cover on the bottom right of the second picture.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Upholstery questions

I used a single twin bed (39" wide) latex foam mattress and cut it with a handsaw, slid a piece of plywood inside and then stapled the fabric to the plywood. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaskan Shed

Thanks guys! I bought an old pop-up camper for $100 and tore it down to the frame and turned it into a 4' X 10' Alaskan dolly. I level it up with blocks and cribbing to get the weight off of the trailer wheels while it's stored.
