RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power Converter Cooling Fan

Thanks to all that responded, Later in the evening when temps cooled off in the garage the fan shut itself off. Must be some type of ambient temp switch on the unit. Crisis adverted.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power Converter Cooling Fan

I have the Hawk parked in the garage and like to plug in shore power every 4 weeks for a couple of days to keep the on board battery charged. I'd hate to have that little fan run for 3 days?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power Converter Cooling Fan

When I plugged my 2015 Hawk into shore power today I heard a humming noise I'd never heard before. Seeking the source, I discovered a cooling fan running on the side of the IOTA power converter. It's been running non-stop now for three hours. We've been plugged into shore power a dozen times and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LED Bulb replacement - exterior porch lights

Yes with the finicky switch. Our porch light wouldn't turn on during a recent trip. Naturally, now that we're home it's working fine?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Guy from Oregon

Welcome, we are new owners as well. We took delivery in March of our Hawk and just spent a full week in it during the Sturgis Rally. We parked at a very nice older campground will full hookups. This is more our style of camping. Our Hawk is nicely equipted however we deleted the refrigator for a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Successful Maiden Trip

I appreciate your observations thank you. The wheels and tires on my trailer are 12 inches however I'm thinking of going up to 13 inch wheels and tires to slow the wheelbearings down a bit. I'm always afraid of those wheelbearings exploding and going into orbit while traveling down the highway...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Successful Maiden Trip

Since we were only gone for the weekend I left the jacks on for the trip. When we leave for Sturgis In August for a weeklong trip the jacks are definitely coming off. I don't have the factory camera system on my truck so it will be all aftermarket equipment. I'm definetly going to address my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Successful Maiden Trip

Good point on the drop hitch, looks like the trailer nose could come down some. Our trip was just a weekend jaunt to a local state park. Nothing glamorous for the first time out. We did however receive a lot if attention at the campground. Not very many 4WC in Nebraska. I did weigh the truck...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Successful Maiden Trip

We had a very successful first trip in our new Hawk. We learned a lot and generally had a great time. I was very pleased with the Firestone airbags, only 35 pounds of air brought the truck back up to normal operating level. A rear view camera is the next purchase as I can't get a good view of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West J bolt size?

I just measured the ones on my 2015 Hawk and the J bolt size is between 3/8 and 5/16, might be metric?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TV In Your Camper?

We just purchased a little 19 inch flat screen for 100 bucks and a small DVD player to go with it. We also purchased a cheap little TV antenna so we can watch the news at night and get the weather report in the morning to start our day. Providing of course we are in range of a local station...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk on the Block

I pondered flat towing verses tow dolly for quite some time but decided on the tow dolly because it has electric brakes. I'm slightly over GVWR when towing the Jeep so I wanted to be as safe as possible. Concerning the sport tires on my truck, I did some research and the wider foot print tires...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk on the Block

I do plan on installing the airbags myself. I own a Jeep so mechanical skills and a complete set of tools are a prerequisite.

Airbags are in the future as well as a rear camera. The airbags are really needed when I pull the Jeep.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk on the Block

We just picked up our new Hawk from Chris at Rocky Mountain 4 Wheel Campers near Denver. Chris was kind enough to perform the install on his day off as we made our way home to Omaha from Easter Jeep Safari in Moab UT. Our Hawk is equipped with side dinette, heater, flat top stove and sink. I was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Storing Hawk on a Trailer

We have considered building a custom dolly dedicated for the camper but our driveway does have a slope which might make it near impossible to roll it into the garage. I even thought about rigging up some type of pulley system using the winch on my Jeep to pull the dolly and camper into the...

So she's wider in the rear, didn't know that. Good information, thank you so much for the safety tips.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Storing Hawk on a Trailer

We are taking delivery of our Hawk in about two weeks and my storage plan is to lower the Hawk onto a 4X8 foot utility trailer and then back the trailer into the garage. The utility trailer does have side rails and the width between the rails is 49.5 inches. Will the Hawk fit between the side...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Eagle in a Full Size Pickup

I'm going to speculate that a full size truck box is too wide to fit under an Eagle when it's up on the jacks. This is the case with Palimino's mid size campers they aren't wide enough when up on jacks to back a full size truck under. I certainly could be incorrect about the FWC.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC's on Reg Cab Trucks

With a pop up camper in our future we went with a regular cab truck for two reasons. First, the regular cab trucks naturally weigh less than a extended cab or 4 door truck and with that less weight usually comes a slightly higher payload rating. I really wanted to stay with a half ton truck and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Introduction

I hear you, I'm very conscious of the stance and gross vehicle weight myself. I'll gladly send some before and after pictures when the camper comes in. I have attached a photo of my truck from about two years ago when we set a 1,500 pound Palimino camper on the back. It leveled out quite a bit...
