RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West new tires - snow rating - new truck - not worry? chains?

Thanks everyone for all the great thoughts. I am actually ordering the truck thru a broker, who then is actually working with a dealer, but it means zero dealer “negotiations”. But I save tons of money and zero hassle. Have done this a few times before. Highly recommended. Perhaps not for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West new tires - snow rating - new truck - not worry? chains?

Hello all you nice people :) I'm about to custom order a 2020 F350 4 x 4 and according to Ford the tires included are: LT275/70Rx18E BSW A/T. These are to get the E load rating on the tires needed to get 11,500 GVWR. I am told I don’t have any choice in what tire is used by Ford - that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any last suggestions? About to lock in our Hallmark pop up truck camper order.

Hey Vic - thanks so much for the great thoughts. Very helpful. :-) I ended up ordering the "full offset" ladder with Matt - he says it will work well with our rear storage cans. and he can provide a mount so we can put our MaxxTrax on the ladder, at 90 degrees for some reason. Fine with me...

The good news is that according to Truma - the units have a less than 1% failure rate across the lifespan of the unit. Amazing. Also I spoke at length with a Truma mobile service tech and about 90% of issues can be fixed over the phone. Also we happen to live very close to a main Truma USA...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hallmark in freezing temps

We are about to order our Hallmark - new - and the Truma Combi Plus is, by all accounts, going to be a game changer. It is super efficient, and also super quiet - and it is ducted so the heat goes not only into the Hallmark main compartment, but they duct the cabinets so the batteries dont...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any last suggestions? About to lock in our Hallmark pop up truck camper order.

Thanks so much smlobx for looking over our list... as you are a Hallmark owner, it is especially helpful. :-) The only slight pain with the 270 awning on a Hallmark is that as it is up high.... we'll have to carry a good length step ladder, i think, to be able to reach it to unzip it and deploy...

Heya DanoT. Yup it is a 12v fridge - no need to be flat, and no need to ever ever switch between propane and 12v We three like to do extended off the grid, middle of nowhere camping, while still enjoying fresh food thus the bigger than normal fridge. As we will camp 4 seasons / rain / cloud /...

Good idea... our 270 AluCab 270 shadow awning will provide some coverage for both rear and passenger at same time. I think we will use it al lot. For both (light to medium) rain and sun. :-) J.

Any last suggestions? About to lock in our Hallmark pop up truck camper order. Thanks to everyone here who has given me lots of great info and ideas during my design phase. Super helpful! I have had fun fine tuning the final details with Matt at Hallmark. He has been great to work with to help...

The Crovel looks cool. 2 years down the road - you happy with it? anyone else like the Crovel? Instead of an axe and shovel (sort of instead of) i see it is now Crovel Extreme 2.... the current model. https://www.offgridweb.com/product/crovel-extreme-ii/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AUX camera input Superduty: always live, at any speed?

Hi all I know that on the current Ford SuperDuty - above 6 mph the 360 camera system will shut off. However I know there is an AUX camera input to the system, and if you wire a camera to it, and press the AUX button - then you can see the AUX camera. My question is - will this AUX camera...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How is this for a power system? Solar vs battery balance?

I will be getting the "super manual" roof lift. Hallmark says to use a 20v Dewalt brushless Lithium drill, and it works great. Drill costs about $120 or so. Here is an example with a guy with a less powerful drill. cool, eh? :-) The built in power lift roof costs an extra $3,800 and I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How is this for a power system? Solar vs battery balance?

Thanks for the thoughts. Great to read. :-) Just to educate myself, I spoke with a Victron person, and they are very helpful I think we will likely go with an all Victron system. 100% Victron, for a bunch of reasons. I will say that Hallmark have been very kind, patient, and helpful, and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How is this for a power system? Solar vs battery balance?

thanks. :-) Being in the Midwest now.... lots of grey skies , rain, and non-CA skies, especially in winter, and the big 12v fridge is a bit of a power pig. 4.4 amp hours when running, i seem to recall. Yikes. so leaning towards overkill, indeed. :-)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How is this for a power system? Solar vs battery balance?

Good points... but keep in mind that we are in the midwest, with very short winter days, grey skies, cold weather so TrumaCombiPlus needs juice to run all night.... we will camp 4 seasons. also - a partially shady campsite (many trees here) will cripple solar gathering. My thought is... if I...

Old Crow wrote: "...I'm curious what discussions folks may have had with the factory (or what experience you may have had) with the optional mylar fourth layer in the soft-wall material." When I asked Hallmark about this they emphatically said that almost no one gets or should get the optional...

I'll check with Hallmark about possibly using a Victron inverter or inverter charger instead of the Progressive Dynamics. Maybe a cost issue. Can't remember. thanks.

Hey Cliff - thanks so much for all the great words of wisdom, and the vote of confidence for Hallmark. Much appreciated. I am 99.999999% sure we will get the manual roof - 20v brushless Dewalt Lithium drill is what Hallmark says is best. I dont want to spend the $3,800 on the power roof, and...
