RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1988 Four Wheel Camper Grandby renovation and Tundra Fit

Kinda how my build went. Have a plan and execute it. Once done, you get to looking at it and realize that won't work! Back to the drawing board! I bet as many hours sitting in my build figuring how I wanted to to do things, as I did building. The good news is when you are done, it's what YOU...

Not sure if I even know what I'm talking about, but doesn't a pickup frame and bed twist a lot? I think that's why 4 wheel campers are only welding on 1 side of the square stock. If that's the case, I'm wondering how your welded up frame that's bolted to the truck frame will fare? I know one...

If you have the skills and the right sewing machine, industrial walking foot would be ideal, it could be a weekend project. The window construction is the biggest time consumer and difficulty level. Pokey's build thread gives an excellent step by step coverage of the whole process...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 Granby Rebuild for 2nd Gen Tacoma

Looks like your bed panel is 2 pieces. I imagine it's been replaced. With the camper finished, doing it in 2 pieces is about the only way it can be done. I'd replace it with 1 piece while you have it tore down.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 Granby Rebuild for 2nd Gen Tacoma

I rebuilt a 1979 Grandby last year, here's the link. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/13966-1979-granby/ On your heater question, I couldn't remove that part either. I believe the vent tube slides over the heater exhaust tube, and over time they rust up and freeze together. I had to saw...

I used the plastic electrical conduit. All the pipe and fittings were available at my local home depot. The angle brackets for the plugs were made out of aluminum angle. Here's a few pictures.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting power sockets for electric camper jacks

When I rebuilt my camper I used 2x4's on edge under the floor to give me clearance for the bed rails. These were screwed and glued and part of the floorpack. So I used the gray electrical conduit and mounted it under the wings of the camper to carry the wiring. To cross from right side to left...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West *SOLD* Four Wheel Camper Fold Down Bed Legs

I think they could be used on the bottom or the back when used as a pull out. When I build my side bed, I used them on the seat part. I slide the seat bottom out, then fold the legs down to support it. Then the seat back fills in the space where the bottom slid out.

This is the aluminum wash I used to prepare for welding. Busch Aluminum Wash. https://www.shop.buschbuffingproducts.com/Cleaners-Washes_c6.htm I bought the gallon size at $30.12 You may only need a quart, but I have found it handy for my boat and other stuff.

I did away with the rear camper window on the right side of the door. I put a porta potty in the right rear so I figured my wife wouldn't want an audience while on the pot. LOL! I saved all the foam rubber cushions from my camper and made new covers. Once I had my floor pack built and installed...

I'll have to look in my shop and see what chemical my welder recommended for cleaning the aluminum. I used a spray bottle to apply it, then just hosed it off. Got it clean enough for my welder to go to work. Wasn't cheap, but less than $50 delivered. Saved a lot of work.

Yes, back to a wood base. On the aluminum, I tripled each corner for electric jacks. Closed off a rear window, and moved the door left and narrowed it. Plus narrowed it for newer trucks. That was the extent of the aluminum fabrication.

I did the same as Pokey. Precut all the pieces and took the frame to a shop and had them do the welding. Here's my frame on a trailer ready to go to the shop.

Ouray, Here's my Rube Goldberg set up for drawing water from the 7 gal jugs. I also chose the portable jugs as it's much easier to swap them out rather than trying to fill a built in tank. Here's a picture of my roof on saw horses just to give you an idea of the frame work. You can see the screw holes for the lift panel hinges on the front frame member. Also in the picture you will see some white aluminum angle I used to mount the ceiling lights. You could put a few of those front...
