RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Composite lift panel material?

I used ACM, aluminum composite material. My son uses it at the commercial glass company he works at. I think sign companies use it also. If you have any of those type businesses near by, check them out. They may have scrap pieces you could by. That's how I got mine.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY Camper Build From Scratch

Wyo1, I also built my lift panels out of ACM material. Shame you ordered the rivets, as I have a bunch. I think I bought a pack of 500 with the wide flange. I'm sorry I missed this post. My computer is in the shop and I'm trying to make do with a Amazon tablet and my Iphone. If you can find my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Picked up a Project (90's Granby)

So if it's plain 90 degree aluminum, how wide is each side of the bend? I just checked, on the plain white aluminum angle, I have a piece 66"s and a piece 76"s. They are 1 1/2 " wide on each side of the bend.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Picked up a Project (90's Granby)

Where exactly is that trim piece? On my 79 Grandby, everything above the floor tub has trim pieces that accept a vinyl insert to cover the screws. The bottom of the siding, each vertical corner, and the top of the siding. The trim on the floor tub was just plain 90 degree angle aluminum. I used...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suggestions for stapling into aluminum

This is what I used. It will only staple into the light gauge alumin used in the FWC framing. I added some heavier gauge in the corners of my Grandby and it wouldn't penetrate. Porter-Cable NS150CR 18-Gauge 1/4 in. Crown 1-1/2 in. Narrow Crown Stapler Kit Was great for building the floor tub...

Put up a picture of the trim you need. I have some laying around. Obviously I'd have to ship it, so give me the length of each piece, as the shorter the package, the cheaper to ship. I was thinking you need the upper body trim, maybe you mean the plain trim on the floor tub.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fantastic Fan cover?

I have the new remote controlled rain sensor fan, and don't have that tab. In fact the last couple campers I've had with Fantastic fans never had the tab.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Timbren suspension products

I've had Timbrens on 2 trucks with campers, and they have been fine. IIRC, when you mount them, there should be about 1 inch clearance with the truck empty. So if your measurement of 1/2 " less than the length of the Timbrem when loaded, they will already be working. I'm personally not a fan of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 84 Fleet - 09 Tacoma - Project

Tim, I noticed you sold your Wave heater and it looks like you are using a Mr Buddy heater. Is that the standard or larger one? I ditched my propane compartment for more interior room. So far I have no planned fixed propane appliances, but if that changes, I'm going to mount a bracket on the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I want a simple pop up. Is it better to buy or build.

I think extending the camper body would be easy enough, longer and heavier top beams. But the roof lengthening would probably require a complete new structure.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I want a simple pop up. Is it better to buy or build.

I had a late model hardside truck camper that didn't fit my needs. I contemplated tearing it down and rebuilding it to suit me. Bagged that idea and found a project FWC for $400. I basically just used the original aluminum framing, windows, door and roof. Here's my thread on it. There's a number...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof height with 36" struts?

The OP is doesn't want to use lift panels. He intends to use the struts to hold up his roof, and then maybe use some bracing. I used factory style panels, and my fabric was determined by the panels. I think he just wants to get an idea how high his fabric will have to be using struts.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof height with 36" struts?

Okay, these are my measurements, others could vary I'm sure. My rear struts are extended 35.5 inches. The mounting balls are 50 inches apart at the top, and 7.5 inches apart at the bottom.I used right angle ball brackets, with the ball at the top. The top ball is actually about .5 inches above...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof height with 36" struts?

I rebuilt a 79 Grandby and I have about 6' 1" headroom inside the camper. I think my lift panels are about 26 inches high. I used 36" 40# struts. I'm guessing I started the top of my windows about 7"s down from the top. I could get you a measurement tomorrow. I bought 60" fabric and cut it in...

"But as soon and my wife and daughter start filling it up with skin care products it will all average out." Amazing how many products a woman has to rub on her skin, and the price of them is crazy! I tell my wife, " you see this, it's a bar of Ivory soap, that's all I need!

Less than 800#s? Wow, that seems less than they say a shell weighs with nothing in it. I've got to put mine on a diet. My camper maybe a little less than 1100#s, as my truck light weight didn't include the Happijack tiedown kit, Fastgun hold downs or my suspension upgrade I did since the first...

My 2016 Chevy 1500 4x4 doublecab weighs in at 5680 with me in it. My 1979 Grandby that I rebuilt with no heater, no propane, 1 battery, electric jacks, and a compressor fridge rang up 6780 on the scale. All my plywood was 5/8 and less. I'm guessing your 2 batteries propane, heater ect. adds up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

Nice work Poky! I need to address a gutter over my door also. With the door frame almost tight against the trim, and the strut mounts, it has been on the back burner. Since my build, the door is out of rack with the frame. I think when it warms up some, I will build a door with a welded...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Struts to lift roof - and no lift panels or EMT lifters?

The lift struts are the cats meow. What a difference they made in raising my roof. I did build the original type lift panels though. Personally I wouldn't depend on just the struts to hold my roof up, or raise it straight. One weak cylinder and the roof getting caddy wompus, could get out of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Kidde fire extinguisher recall

With your new extinguisher, they supplied an instruction sheet for the return. Call FEDEX, request to speak to an agent, tell them it's hazardous, give them the tracking # on the return label, and they come pick it up at your door. Easy Peasy.
