RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Possible Western Trip

I say possible as my wife has progressive MS. She will be 69 this month and uses a walker, maybe soon to a wheelchair. Anyhow I'd like to get her out west. I've been to CO, NV, and SD, but never with her. I have a FWC and would probably boondock a couple days, then hit a full service campground...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1979 Granby

Forgot to mention, I ran into another couple with a FWC. It was a 1998 Grandby on a pickup with a utility body. They drove to CA and picked it up new at the factory. They had been contemplating some upgrades after almost 20 years of ownership and came over to see what I had done with mine.

Had our first trip in the camper! Everything went well and I think my layout is about as good as it can get for us in a truck camper. One night we had over an inch of rain, and no leaks! The bummer was the campground was pretty full. Usual for this time of year, but there was some type of...

Great video Tim ! I love that 1x2 lumber, cheap and very light. Is that the Gray indoor outdoor carpet Home Depot sells in 6x8 rolls you are using? I covered all my plywood with it. Very easy to use and gives it a clean finished look. Hopefully my counter top will work out as planned. 34 hours...

Another long day in the shop. Installed the lift struts and a table base plate in the floor. That didn't take long, and it was the last 2 jobs I had to finish before my trip. Cleaning up the shop after about 6 months of the build was a chore! The boat was in the shop with the camper, so next...

Hello Tim, I bought the curtain rods at Walmart. Just those cheap telescoping type, That's what the ones were that came with the camper. All those trim pieces I got at Home Depot. There's outside corners, inside corners, 1/4 round, shoe molding and some 3/4 " flat with the sides beveled. They...

Almost read to go! Lift struts arriving tomorrow I hope. I was at the point of just taping paper over the windows for privacy on our upcoming trip. Stopped by Wallyworld and saw some curtains that might look good. They were 27"x84". Bought 2 pair and cut the top off for the right length for my...

I used leftover material form the siding and sheared it to size and the used a brake to bend it at a 90. Fortunately my son has all the equipment at the shop he works at. I miter cut the corners and then just screwed it to the framing around the window.

That's the A/C D/C converter. 110 volts in, 3 breakers for 110 volts in the camper, battery charger maintainer, and about 10 fused D/C circuits.

Got some more done. Covered all the plywood seat tops and backs with carpet and also upholstered my cushions. On the right is a couch that the bottom pulls out and the back drops down to form a bed 74"s by 28"s. That will be for my wife. The cabover bed is 78"s by 44"s, that for me. Now either...

I was following your build on E/P and noticed I was right behind you. Tomorrow I start sewing new cushion covers. First trip is Oct 22nd to VA for 10 or 11 days.

Finished the exterior today with exception to the vinyl trim insert. That's arriving tomorrow. This morning I finished all the caulking and installed the roof tiedown clamps. Once that was done it was time for a trial load it up on the truck and take it to a scale. Loading went very well and my...

Thanks Poky! Seeing the side walls on was a real milestone for me! I couldn't imagine completing this project without the help of your thread! I'll get those elastic straps done next.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bungee cord thingies for canvas on the lift panels

Thanks Poky, just the info I needed! I had made up tabs with D rings to glue to the sidewalls. I think I'll throw them in the scrap bin. If I can fit them, it's gotten pretty full during this project. LOL! I may try this, buy the elastic that you used, sew it to some 3x3 vinyl tabs, glue...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bungee cord thingies for canvas on the lift panels

Thanks! That may be how mine was done from the factory. On some places on the old liner there are rings, and other places a rusty stud. I imagine the rusty stud was a rivet for attaching at the lift panel. I'd like to avoid any penetrations of the sidewall.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bungee cord thingies for canvas on the lift panels

Rebuilding a 79 Grandby and there were no lift panels, but there were some eye's on the canvas for the bungees. Looks like there were 3 for each lift panel, and 2 others for each side. I surmise that the lift panels should have a hole drilled thru the lower panel up near the hinge, and the...

Another milestone today. Got the canvas half installed, the tough part, stretching around the roof and body! It took some pulling and tugging to get it around the roof, but my brother and I did it and have the top trim in place. I didn't fasten it at the bottom. I wasn't sure where to place the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Parts Direct From FWC

I'll chime in that they aren't helpful at all to folks doing a rebuild. Told me they couldn't provide any measurements on the lift panels as they were privileged business info or some thing like that. Then in the next sentence, they said they would be happy to build some for me but I'd have to...

I just viewed your video you posted on the 6th, I was in Canada with no internet. Great job, must of felt great getting it out on the road! Camper is looking good! I just got my roof back on with the composite roof panels. My first trip is planned for the 22nd of Oct.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring loaded vs regular turnbuckles for bed mount?

I've had several truck campers, pop up and hardside. I've used the spring loaded Fastguns which Vic mentioned. On my 79 FWC Grandby rebuild, I intend to use them also. Truck beds flex, I believe you need some wiggle room or somethings going to break on bend.
