^^^ I second rando's recommendation of McMaster-Carr. That's where I sourced my forged eye bolts and other stuff for installing the FWC in my newer truck. Their stuff is quality.

Mine are connected to the license plate light. In a corrosive environment (i.e. salted winter roads), I could see that connection as the culprit. Recently wired up a new truck for the FWC and spliced into the license plate lights and covered with dielectric grease and heat shrink tubing.

It can be used partially extended, but I don't think it would work well for getting into the camper. I use the Rubbermaid folding step stool for that.

I have this ladder. Works great and I store it in the rear of the cab. I even find myself using it around home too on occasion.

How old are the batteries and how well have they been maintained? My guess is that they are shot, but check the voltage reading after no load for a couple hours and see what it bounces back to. I had a couple batteries go bad (defective) and they were still under warranty. Furnace running...
