RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

With or without the compressor refrig I'd have two batteries. The solar panel on the roof is all I added to the camper to help with the electrical demands of the refrig. As far as weight...that is why I have a 3/4 ton I guess. If you're running a FWC on a Tundra then I imagine weight is a big...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

I installed my compressor refrig and then plugged it in. It runs perfectly all the time and every time regardless of the slope or wind.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

This is the exact reason I chose to go with the standard rigid, tried-and-true, solar panels and not the new bendable panels. A bit of research showed me that there were too many flaws still present in these types of panels and it will be a bit until they're worked out. Once they are proven to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

I completely agree with Ramblinman on his cost assessment. If cost is the biggest issue for someone, then a 3-way is probably the best way to go. If you have the money to do either, I can't think of a reason why anyone would not go with a compressor refrig.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

I have a hard time believing that anyone would be convinced that they should go with a 3-way refig once they've seen the efficiency and ease of a solar and a compressor refrig combo. Whether or not you are traveling along the highway and passing propane refill locations every 10 mins or in a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

Bill D - Of course I wouldn't put the same cheap part back in if I replaced it. I would only put in a quality stainless drain in there. The benefit to replacing it now versus waiting is that since the camper is fairly new it will be a bit easier then if I wait and let the existing threads...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a lithium Ion battery to FWC

I'd go with a bigger solar panel than a 100 watt. I went straight for the 160 watt panel and mounted it to my Yakima tracks and it works great. The additional weight from a 100 to 160 is not that great, but you gain a few more amps and a faster battery charge!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

The only thing in my camper that I use for cleaning is Dawn liquid detergent. I can't imagine that would do it. Anyone know what size the sink drain is? Is it some odd-ball size or is it a standard size that I can find easily? Thanks

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

The last time I used the camper and cooked in it was on a tule elk hunt here in CA this past December. We cooked a lot of elk chili on that hunt. Maybe the corrosion is due to the gas clouds created after a few days of that chili!!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

I wonder if there's a stainless or brass model that will fit this that way I can do away with the chrome all together.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

Good to know. As for the drain, I'm hoping FWC comes through and offers to fix it under warranty since the camper is less than 18 months old.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

Thanks Kispiox, but there's no cleaning this up. The chrome plating is peeling up and is pitted. Not sure what to do: replace or leave it. It's not my nature to leave something like this unrepaired.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Hawk Sink Drain Corrosion

Has anyone seen this happen to their sink drain? I was in my Hawk (Dec of 2013 model) over the weekend and noticed the sink drain was corroding and had the chrome plating peeling up. I have an email into FWC to see what the issue is and how we can fix it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Extension Hose Connections

I'm looking for advice on what type of propane connections I would need to run a hose from a larger propane tank on the ground outside the camper up into the camper's propane box that will attach to the existing terminal hose end connection. Basically, I want to be able to run my existing two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge Vent Install

underdog, The Engel refrig you bought I believe is made to vent internally by pulling air up from the bottom, around the back of the refrig and out the top. In cooler climates you could probably get by without any exterior venting, but it is really hot the additional vent on the exterior might...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge Vent Install

Who knows what they are doing at any time. I do know that in early 2014 FWC told me they were going to one vent for the compressor refrig. In fact, I can vividly remember them saying that two vents for the compressor refrig was overkill. However Stalking Light with the two vents you should...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge Vent Install

FWC has changed their opinion on whether vents are needed with a compressor refrig. When I spoke with them a year ago they said they had tried to go the no-vent route, but it wasn't working too well and went to adding one vent. When I put in my Isotherm compressor refrig I had FWC cut in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a Second Solar Panel

PaulT, Here's a link to my 160 panel install on the factory Yakima tracks. IMO I think this is the best and easiest install if you have the tracks. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/8774-camper-roof-flex-and-solar-panel-installation/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a Second Solar Panel

It looks like the Morningstar SS-MPPT-15L can accept more than 200 watts, but cuts off the usable power at the 200 watt level. According to their documents, an array larger than 200 watts connected to the SS-MPPT-15L is actually the better way to go, but there is a cost-benefit in play there...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a Second Solar Panel

Pods, Have you tried to charge a dual battery system by running the vehicle? I have not had good luck with that. From what I can tell you're not going to add much to the batteries unless you are going to be doing a 3+ hour drive. From what I've seen, idling the truck for 30 minutes adds a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a Second Solar Panel

It sounds like you're doing exactly what I'm hoping to do. Thanks for the information. When you deploy the Renogy panel where do you put it? Do you have a stand for it or do you simply lay it somewhere? For me I may need to lay it out while I'm away from camp for 3-4 hours and I'm afraid the...

Thanks Dave. My current panel has a Vmp of 18.5 and the Renogy 100w flex panel has a Vmp of 17.7, which is within 10%. I'm fine with buying a second controller for the new panel if I had to. Right now I run the SunSaver MPPT 15 amp controller and I'm thinking I'm getting close to maxing it...
