RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Roof Flex and Solar Panel Installation

Yes, Mangy, I'm using the metal tabs in the channels. I actually took the end caps off and added a few more so I had enough for the panel and a set of Yakima bars.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof solar planning - cutting the hole

My panel is directly above my SAE plug and I have the wires taped pretty tightly together and then just sitting there on the roof. I actually need to check them before my hunting trip in 2.5 weeks to make sure all is well with them.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof solar planning - cutting the hole

I am no expert on all years of FWC and can only speak to my 2013 set up. I'll help/assist where I can but it will be what I know from my 2013 year model.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Costco solar panel

I have the Sunsaver MPPT 15a controller. I don't stare at my battery monitor, but the most I've seen coming from the solar panel is about 9 amps. I checked with a lot of different solar folks before choosing this panel and controller. I'm sure it'd push more amps with the right situation.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof solar planning - cutting the hole

Isn't your battery isolator and batteries in the same compartment? My wires were in this compartment with butt connectors crimped on to them for protection. They were wrapped up tightly right next to the battery separator. To get better access to them I had to remove the protection around the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Costco solar panel

I have the 160 watt grape solar panel and I find it to be a very nice panel. It weighs about 26 lbs and definetely added weight to the roof, but I can lift it easily and I don't have the lifter thingys. I am thinking of getting a secondary portable panel and the one take-away I got from a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof solar planning - cutting the hole

I have a late 2013 Hawk that I ordered without a solar plug on the roof. When I took it up to FWC to have one installed all they did was remove the long narrow wood lift piece to access the junction box. From there they simply drilled a hole upward through the roof and mounted the SAE plug and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerator box insulation

Here's my take on this and what I did on my recent refrig install. I packed insulation tight around the refrig and I do not have an air gap around it, but I made sure the warm air generated by the compressor and fan could get out of the area behind the refrig and to the exterior. I'm betting...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding electric refrigerator

I'm running the Grape Solar 160 watt panel and two stock group 24 AGM batteries. As long as it's sunny and no shade from trees hit the panel the system will be full charged the next day, after running the refrig all night, in 3-4 hours. Pretty impressed on how it's working. I'm very happy I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding electric refrigerator

You probably could, but the with the cost of the 2-way refrig and the simplicity of making the opening larger I'd lean toward getting the 85L and doing the work. Even my 85L has quite a bit of dead space on the left and right of the refrig, but there's nothing I can do about that. With the 65L...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding electric refrigerator

I think it depends on how big the 3-way was. For me going from an ice box to the Isotherm 85 I did have to enlarge the existing opening a little bit, but it was pretty easy to do. I considered the 65L also, but when I looked at the dimensions there was a lot of wasted space. The 85L is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's under your camper?

It's probably just me, but I don't like the idea of too much soft padding under the camper. A lot of padding allows the camper to move up-down-left-right from compression of the padding. This in my mind allows the turn buckles to relax and then get taught again and again, which could cause it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

I'll have to look at one of these units soon. I'm in the market for a satellite phone to use on hunting and work related trips. The spur kicking me in gear to buy one right now is a pregnant wife that is due on Sept 22 and the fact that I'll be gone on an elk hunt possible up to Sept. 13...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk on a Ram 1500

Nothing to do with GVWR, but I also find it hilarious with my friends that they buy Toyota Tundras and 4-Runners and then complain all day about the mileage they get in them. My Dodge 3/4 diesel with mud terrains and the camper gets the same MPG they get in their trucks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk on a Ram 1500

Get a 3/4 ton and you'll never have to worry about a single issue related to GVWR. No airbags to break, no need to upgrade to E-rated tires, no sway bars...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's under your camper?

I put a perfectly cut piece of 3.4" plywood under mine. I use mine on hunting trips and all the jostling I was afraid would prematurely wear the bottom of the camper. With the plywood under the camper, the bottom of the camper looks new. I also use the plywood on top of three saw horses that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding electric refrigerator

My newly installed Isotherm Cruise 85 is working great. It is almost impossible to hear running and will keep a pretty constant temp inside. Lately I've been leaving it running while parked at home to store beer and sodas. The freezer works pretty well too, but it's a bit small to bring a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I am getting another new set of tires.

I just bought six Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar tires for my truck and have my spare to sell now: http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/9058-for-sale-michelin-ltx-as-lt26570r17/ Figured this might be a good spot to advertise it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Stock Chrome Wheels Dodge Ram 2500

I am selling two stock chrome wheels from a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. I recently bought four of them and only needed two. This is what they look like, but they come without any tire mounted to them. They are just the bare chrome wheels. I'm asking $50 each or $80 for the pair. PM me if you're...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West For Sale - Michelin LTX A/S LT265/70R17

I recently bought six new mud terrain tires for my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. I also bough two stock chrome rims and mounted two of the new mud terrains to use as spares that I will rotate through the truck every 5,000 miles. Because of this I am selling my spare, which has never been driven on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Palomino Bronco Reviews

500#s over GVWR is quite a bit. Once you add water, propane and gear you're going to be closer to 900-1000#s over GVWR. This would be analogous to me putting a payload in my 3/4 Dodge of 2,500#s. I'd be over the 9,000# GVWR and closer to the 10,000# mark. I'd either get a different truck or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ice Box for Sale

I recently installed a Isotherm refrig in my 2013 Hawk camper and in doing so removed a basically new ice box that came with the camper. The ice box has been used twice to date and worked quite well, but with an infant and the goal of adding solar to the camper I felt a 2-way refrig would be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Help Needed

Cayuse, Not to talk you out of it, but the 200 watt panel is going to be way overkill. I'm finding that my 160 watt will charge my batteries after a full night of running the refrig in 3-4 hours. Also, the addition of the 160 panel definitely made lifting the front of the roof noticeably...
